If you’re in the UAE you definitely must try Kunafa. Knafeh or kunafa is a popular traditional Middle Eastern dessert made with spun pastry called kataifi, soaked in a sweet, sugar-based syrup called attar, and typically layered with cheese, or with other ingredients such as clotted cream, pistachio or nuts, depending on the region.
While Dubai has a host of places that serve in dessert, we found a hidden spot that does it best and that too for just AED 10. Wondering where? Well, head to Mama’esh in Al Safa to savour this decadent delicacy right away! More deets below.
Mama’esh has been in Al Safa since 2016 and serves delicious Palestinian Cuisine. But, what grabbed our attention was their Kunafa- irresistible and light on the pocket. Made out of fresh nabulsi kunafa dough, flavored with rose water, stuffed with akkawi cheese, served with sugar syrup- this one’s to-die-for!
Apart from Kunafa, you can also try a sweet-version of Manaesh. This one’s got organic dough, topped with hazelnut chocolate, banana slices, garnished with crushed pistachio. As sinful as the kunafa, if we may say so!
In addition, the restaurant also serves delicious Palestinian Fatayers too. From Shawarma Fatayer to Muhamarah & Cheese, Turkey & cheese, Sujuk & Cheese, and a simple Za’atar version, the restaurant serves more than 10 varieties for foodies to dig into. That said, the menu also includes a variety of Manaesh, wraps and pan-baked delicacies.
In a nut-shell, this is one place you must visit for great food and great vibes.
Happy eating!
