Ektaa Kapoor, the co-founder of the television production powerhouse Balaji Telefilms, has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2023 International Emmy Directorate Award. This momentous announcement was made by Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. She will be presented with the International Academy’s Special Emmy at the 51st International Emmy Awards Gala, scheduled for Monday, November 20, 2023, in the vibrant city of New York.
Elated by this recognition, Ekta shared her thoughts, saying, “Receiving this recognition fills me with a profound sense of humility and excitement. This award holds a special place in my heart, as it signifies a journey that goes beyond mere work—it’s a pivotal aspect of my personal and professional life,” said Kapoor. “Representing my country on the global stage through this esteemed platform is an incredible honor. Television has been instrumental in helping me discover my identity, particularly as a woman working to make stories for women. This award allows me to represent them and our shared accomplishments on an international level.”
Ektaa Kapoor’s journey in Indian television began in 1994 when she co-founded Balaji Telefilms with her parents, the Indian movie star and producer Jeetendra Kapoor and media executive Shobha Kapoor. The Filmmaker and Producer is celebrated for revolutionizing India’s television landscape, pioneering an entire genre of television content, and playing a pivotal role in India’s satellite television boom. Under the Balaji banner, she has created and produced over 17,000 hours of television content and 45 films. Additionally, she launched one of the country’s earliest Indian OTT platforms, Alt Balaji.
Balaji Telefilms’ shows have consistently driven channels for most general entertainment broadcasters, and the company has garnered nearly every major TV award. Ektaa Kapoor herself holds a distinguished position as one of Fortune India’s 50 most powerful women in Asia.
