Celebrating Ramadan Iftar Tradition

In an effort to revive a beloved tradition and spread joy throughout the community, the Sharjah Police have announced the return of firing cannons during Ramadan’s Iftar time. This initiative aims to mark the moment when the fast is broken at sunset, a significant time during the holy month.

Five Designated Locations

The Sharjah Police have selected five strategic locations for the firing of the Iftar cannons. These spots include the Meteorological Front Square, Fortress Square in the Central Region, Clock Tower Square in Kalba City, Khurfkan Runway Square, and Daba Al Hassan Center Square. Each location has been carefully chosen to ensure widespread coverage across the emirate.

A Historical Tradition

The tradition of firing cannons to signal Iftar time traces its roots back to 10th-century Egypt. Back then, cannons were fired to let people know it was time to break their fast and enjoy the evening meal.
