The Maxus D60 is a full-size seven-seater that most people in Dubai have not even looked at. We spent time with the D60 Max to find out whether it is just another budget family car or a genuine hidden gem, covering the design, the cabin, the tech and how it drives around the city and on the highway.
Who makes the Maxus D60?
Maxus is built by SAIC Motor, and the D60 Max wears both the Maxus and D60 Max badging at the back. It sits in the seven-seat family segment, with chunky cladding that gives it more of an SUV feel than its size suggests.
Exterior design
Up front, a striking grille, LED daytime running lights and lower chrome garnish give the D60 a sleek face, and the lights look especially good at night. Along the side you get:
- 17 inch wheels with tyres that can handle a bit of light off-road
- Usable roof rails for the adventure crowd
- Power-folding mirrors with built-in LED indicators
- Body-coloured door handles and keyless entry, so you can lock and unlock with the key in your pocket
At the back there is a sporty roof spoiler, a light bar that runs across the tailgate and looks great after dark, four parking sensors, a reversing camera, a rear wiper and neatly hidden twin exhausts.
Inside the Maxus D60 Max
The cabin is well equipped for the money. Two-tone red and black seats offer good lumbar support, and the centrepiece is a 10.1 inch infotainment screen. We liked that Maxus kept physical buttons for the air conditioning, so you can change the fan speed without digging through menus.
- Sunroof
- Electronic parking brake with auto hold, which holds the brake for you in traffic
- Wireless phone charging and useful storage behind the screen
- 7 inch driver display and steering wheel controls for cruise, audio and calls
- Six-speaker sound system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Space for the whole family
The second row is genuinely roomy, with good thigh support, plenty of headroom, rear air vents and two USB chargers. The third row works too, which is the whole point of a car like this if you have a bigger family or regularly carry friends.
How it drives
The D60 is easy to drive, with big mirrors, good all-round visibility and soft suspension. Power comes from an engine making around 169 bhp, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that shifts smoothly and keeps things economical around town. For the size of the car, the performance is more than enough, and the cruise control works well on Dubai roads.
Our verdict
If you need seven seats, a well-equipped cabin and easy everyday driving without paying premium-brand money, the Maxus D60 Max deserves a place on your shortlist. Watch the full review above, then explore more car reviews in our Automotive section.
