Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut is back at it, and this time it’s all about her much-anticipated film, Emergency. The Bollywood star is ready to release her labor of love, but not without some drama, of course. From receiving death threats to being in the eye of the storm for various allegations, Kangana has never been one to shy away from the headlines. But now, it looks like the Queen actress is bending a little. After being super firm on not accepting any cuts, she’s finally come around to the CBFC’s suggestions.
Kangana Ranaut gives in, ‘Emergency’ Gets Trimmed!
According to the latest buzz, Kangana – who is not just the lead actor but also the director and co-producer of Emergency – has agreed to make the cuts suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This comes straight from the submissions made by CBFC’s lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud, at the Bombay High Court. Kangana has given the nod to the board’s revising committee, proving once again that even the fiercest can adapt when push comes to shove.
The court was hearing a petition from Zee Studios, co-producers of the film, urging the release of the all-important censor certificate. Why? Because the film has been making waves for allegedly misrepresenting the Sikh community.
Kangana Ranaut Says Yes to Changes – But They’re Minimal!
At Monday’s hearing, Zee’s lawyer, Sharan Jagtiani, confirmed that Kangana is on board with the proposed cuts. However, there’s a bit of relief here – these cuts don’t drastically change the film. Advocate Chandrachud reassured, saying, “The cuts don’t even touch a minute of the film, it’s just a few words here and there.” So, Kangana’s Emergency is still packed with all the drama it promised – just with a few tweaks. The next hearing is set for Thursday. Hold on tight, folks!
What’s ‘Emergency’ All About?
For those not in the loop, Emergency is a biographical political thriller. Co-produced by Manikarnika Films and Zee Studios, it dives into one of India’s most controversial chapters – Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s 21-month emergency rule from 1975 to 1977. And yes, Kangana herself steps into the shoes of the Iron Lady of India. Originally slated for a September 6 release, the film got delayed because of the ongoing certification issues.
Kangana even took to social media (X, formerly Twitter) to announce the postponement with a heavy heart, saying, “We are still waiting for the certification from the censor board, and a new release date will be announced soon.”
With a heavy heart I announce that my directorial Emergency has been postponed, we are still waiting for the certification from censor board, new release date will be announced soon, thanks for your understanding and patience ?

More Controversy
Emergency has been under fire for quite some time, with multiple Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, objecting to the portrayal of their community in the film. They claim the film misrepresents their history and paints an inaccurate picture. And when it comes to biographical dramas, we all know the stakes are high!
While Emergency is embroiled in its fair share of drama off-screen, we can’t wait to see it release. One thing’s for sure – Kangana never fails to keep us hooked!
