Why are Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola popular with Filipino audiences?

The duo are closely associated with Eat Bulaga!, one of the Philippines’ best-known television variety shows.

Both entertainers became familiar faces to generations of viewers through comedy sketches, characters, hosting segments and live interactions. Their work as part of the show’s wider Dabarkads group helped establish their strong on-screen partnership.

Their appeal also comes from the way they use everyday situations, familiar Filipino references and character-based humour in their performances.

For Filipino audiences living overseas, live appearances by well-known entertainers can offer a direct connection to familiar television culture. The Abu Dhabi show therefore gives UAE residents an opportunity to experience that comedy outside the Philippines.

How does the show fit into Abu Dhabi Comedy Season 2026?

The Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola show adds a distinctly Filipino element to the third edition of Abu Dhabi Comedy Season.

The 2026 programme features comedians from different backgrounds and comedy styles. Morgan Jay is scheduled for October 11, followed by Russell Peters on October 25. Mo Amer will perform on November 6, while Maz Jobrani is scheduled for November 7.

The programme reflects Abu Dhabi’s wider push to bring international entertainment to the capital. Hosting performers with different cultural backgrounds also allows the comedy season to appeal to a broader mix of residents and visitors.

The addition of Manalo and Bayola is particularly relevant to the UAE’s Filipino community, which forms one of the country’s largest expatriate communities.

What can audiences expect from the Filipino comedy duo?

The Abu Dhabi show is expected to draw on the duo’s established chemistry, spontaneous exchanges and character-based comedy.

Fans familiar with their television work can expect references and humour rooted in Filipino entertainment culture, while the live setting allows the performers to interact directly with the audience.

Their appearance is also different from the season’s Western and Middle Eastern comedy acts, giving the programme another cultural perspective.

For audiences who have followed the duo through Eat Bulaga!, the event offers the chance to see two familiar television personalities in a dedicated live comedy setting rather than as part of a television variety programme.

The show gives Filipino residents in Abu Dhabi and other parts of the UAE another opportunity to see major Filipino entertainers without travelling overseas.

It also adds variety to Abu Dhabi’s growing live entertainment calendar. Yas Island, home to Etihad Arena, has become an important venue for concerts, sporting events and large-scale entertainment, bringing international performers to the capital throughout the year.

For Filipino-owned businesses, restaurants and community-focused venues, events that attract large Filipino audiences can also create additional activity around dining, transport and leisure spending.

More broadly, the event highlights the range of communities that Abu Dhabi’s entertainment calendar now serves.
