Dubai’s ‘Raining Street’: controlled temperature, advance booking, a new beach; here’s what we know so far

What if we tell say you can soon enjoy rains through the year, right here in Dubai! Imagine sitting by the window, sipping on a hot cup of tea and enjoying the downpour! Sounds like a dream? Well, this will soon be reality at Dubai’s Raining Street- a 1-kilometre-long climate-controlled street, where it will rain and even snow on demand. Read on.

The Raining Street is developed in collaboration with Fraunhofer Institute, one of Europe’s leading research organizations. Once completed, it will have its address in the Côte d’Azur beach resort, in the Heart of Europe on the World Islands. Although it is still under construction and in the soft opening phase, Khaleej Times got a sneak peek inside and we’ve gathered some deets.

To begin with, residents will be transported to the pretty streets of Southern France. With a controlled temperature of 27 degrees, winds with a speed of 5 km/h and a humidity of 60 per cent- you can get drenched anytime. And, when we say rain, there ought to be something warm to sip on- isn’t it? Well, you can enjoy that too at La Brasserie French Bistro.

Coming to the important bit- those who wish to visit the raining street must book in advance. Yes, you read that right! The Cote d’Azur Resort comprises of four luxurious five-star hotels named after the picturesque coastal hotspots: Monaco, Nice, Cannes, St Tropez. Currently, only Monaco hotel is functional. Right now, only Monaco hotel is operating, and it has French touches all across its interiors.

Besides, the resort is only accessible using a private yacht operated by the hotel. Therefore guests must make both meal and hotel reservations in advance.

And, once you’re done getting drenched, you can head over to the Rainbow beach where you can soak in uninhibited views and enjoy some sun and sand. A stay at this resort can cost anywhere between AED5,550 and AED8,550.
