Dubai Taxis Record 27.3 Million Trips In First Quarter Of 2023

Dubai is known for its solid public transport system, recently His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced that the number of passengers on the Dubai Metro reached 2 billion since its inauguration on 9-9-2009 and now to add more to Dubai’s glory, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has announced record-breaking news. Over 27.3 million people have used Dubai taxis in the first half of 2023, which is one million more than the same period last year. Read on for all the deets.

Dubai Taxis Records An Impressive Growth In The Past 5 Years

RTA shared the latest figures on Monday and confirmed that the taxi sector in the emirate experienced a robust growth rate of 6 per cent in the first quarter of 2023 and surpasses the levels reported in 2019 with a significant margin of 5 per cent, thereby lauding the impressive growth over the past five years.

In terms of data, keeping the first quarter in mind, 26 million trips were recorded in 2022, 19.2 million trips in 2021, 23.3 million trips in 2020, and 26.1 million trips in 2019, and this year, the staggering 27.3 million showcases a consistent upward trend. Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development Public Transport Agency, RTA, said, “Dubai’s taxi sector has seen a remarkable growth trajectory over the past five years.This sector experienced an unprecedented surge, marking its highest growth in recent years, particularly e-hail services, smart rental services, and Hala Taxi service.”

He added, “The analysis of figures and ratios of the sector during the first quarter of 2023 reflects the thriving economy of Dubai, which cemented its standing as a prominent global hub for investment and tourism.”

The sharp rise comes amid a population boom in Dubai. In 2022, Dubai’s population crossed 3.5 million in April. Besides this, in 2022, the Dubai Metro set a new record and the highest since its launch by serving 225.142 million riders, a remarkable growth rate of nearly 49%. The total number of Dubai Metro users since its inauguration through January of 2023 exceeded two billion.
