UAE Braces for a Dusty Weekend with Rising Temperatures Across the Country

Weather officials warn of dusty winds and rising heat over the weekend, with mist likely in northern inland areas.

Dust is set to hang in the air over large parts of the UAE this weekend as the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts a continuation of hazy and dry conditions along with rising daytime temperatures. Residents can expect clear to partly cloudy skies tainted by dust and sand, especially in the northern and eastern parts of the country.

Friday’s NCM update warns that moderate to fresh winds, reaching up to 45 km/h, will stir up sand and dust in exposed areas through Saturday, reducing visibility and increasing road hazards in some regions.

Blowing Dust, Poor Visibility Expected Across Northern and Eastern Regions

Meteorologists have advised caution for those travelling across the UAE’s northern and eastern territories, where dusty winds are likely to have the greatest impact. The reduced visibility caused by airborne sand is a known hazard for drivers and outdoor workers.

The NCM has issued guidance for motorists navigating through affected zones, urging them to adhere to safe driving protocols during low-visibility periods. Coastal areas may experience gusty breezes strong enough to whip up sandy conditions intermittently throughout the weekend.

Temperatures Set to Rise with Onset of Dry Heat

A gradual warming trend is expected to begin on Sunday, April 20, with daytime highs climbing steadily as the country transitions into its hotter months. The temperature range for this weekend will see daytime highs between 32°C and 37°C, while nighttime lows will hover between 21°C and 26°C.

This uptick in temperature signals an early arrival of summer-like conditions, prompting residents to stay hydrated and limit exposure to outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

Humidity and Mist Possible in the Northern Interior

Dust dominates the short-term forecast, while humid conditions will develop tonight and into Saturday morning, especially in northern internal areas. The combination of humidity and cooler overnight temperatures could lead to mist formation in some spots.

Drivers in these regions should be on alert for fog-like conditions during early morning hours, which could pose a risk on highways and less illuminated routes.

UAE Dust Weather: What to Expect Through the Weekend

Here’s a breakdown of the UAE weather outlook from Friday through Sunday:

  • Friday, April 18: Clear to partly cloudy skies, dusty conditions in northern and eastern regions, moderate to fresh winds peaking at 45 km/h.
  • Saturday, April 19: Similar dusty weather continues; chance of mist in some internal areas in the early morning; temperatures slightly on the rise.
  • Sunday, April 20: Rising heat intensifies, haze lingers in some areas, but winds are expected to calm.

The forecast comes as the country experiences typical seasonal shifts leading up to the hotter months, when sandstorms, increased humidity, and higher temperatures become more frequent.

Residents Advised to Take Precautions

Authorities have reminded the public to stay indoors during periods of heavy dust and avoid strenuous outdoor activity, particularly those with respiratory issues or allergies. Motorists should drive carefully, keep safe distances, and use fog lights in low visibility.

Simple safety measures recommended during dusty weather include:

  • Keeping windows and doors shut
  • Using air purifiers or AC systems with clean filters indoors
  • Wearing masks or covering the nose and mouth when outdoors
  • Washing eyes and skin with clean water after exposure

Outlook: Summer May Be Setting In Early

The dust-laden winds and warming temperatures are indicative of the UAE’s gradual transition into its scorching summer season. While April typically brings variable conditions, this year’s early rise in heat could signal longer and more intense warm spells ahead.

The NCM will continue to monitor and issue advisories as needed. Residents can check daily updates via the official NCM channels or local news outlets to stay informed on any weather warnings or changes.
