The UAE’s First Magic Cafe Has Appeared in Dubai

In Dubai, we appreciate a good concept cafe, and a few new places have just lately begun operations. Brown Bear Magic Cafe is a place that illusionists, card experts, and foodies will adore.

The new café in Dubai that is truly working its charm on customers. True to its name, the space is a combination of a magic store and a café. A delightful little venue full of charms, The Brown Bear Magic Shop and Café has found a sweet spot for itself in Jumeirah. The quirky concept is the first magic cafe in Dubai, despite the cozy small café appearing to have sprung out of nowhere and settled itself in The Village Mall.

Since the café doubles as a working magic shop, the shelves and mantles are filled with every kind of contemporary illusion and classic trick imaginable, including cardistry cards, brainteasers, tornado cubes, ropes, cups, and balls. The cafe’s staff members, who are also illusionists and magicians, are happy to perform magic feats on a stage for guests.

Geeky? While refilling your coffee, the staff will educate you about the background of this style of art. If they do, will your coffee disappear? They might also take a penny out of your ear. Who knows, maybe these people are magicians!

When Brown Bear first opened its doors in 2020 as an online-only magic shop, the city’s magic enthusiasts fell in love with it right away. And lo and behold, their vision for a physical store and café became a reality. Along with fulfilling wishes, this cozy little magic cafe in Dubai offers its patrons a respite from the chaos of daily life with its distinctive environment.

The café is a hybrid of an English gentleman’s club and a New York speakeasy, designed to evoke the understated splendor of the mid-20th century. Books, cozy candlelight, plush sofas, and a fireplace fill the bricked walls. Here, it’s easy to bury yourself in a book and imagine that you’re sitting in a grand home in early 20th-century Europe. While we’d like to think that a magic wand was waved and whisked us to an another time, the fact that Brown Bear is situated in the mall’s courtyard and is therefore isolated from the bustle of Dubai is the real reason for this.

The menu offers a variety of delectable pastries, wraps, salads, sandwiches, as well as iced teas from New Zealand, organic teas from ALTHAUS Germany, and distinctive mocktails. Coffee is provided by local sustainable roaster RAW Coffee.

Similar to its cosmopolitan menu, the café intends to attract visiting foreign magicians to give brief parlor acts once it becomes successful. In the interim, both aspiring magicians and non-magicians are welcome to stop by and take advantage of some healthy tricks and goodies. Not even the phrase “open sesame” is necessary.
