Abu Dhabi is making history by introducing the world’s first fleet of ‘Midnight’ electric air taxis. In collaboration with U.S.-based Archer Aviation, Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA) will roll out the advanced electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft this year, revolutionizing urban air travel.
This move is part of Archer’s ‘Launch Edition’ program, designed to establish the UAE as a global leader in urban air mobility (UAM). The initiative will bring faster, more sustainable, and quieter air travel, cutting long commutes into just minutes.

Cutting Commute Times from Hours to Minutes
The ‘Midnight’ air taxis are designed to transform intercity travel. Current road commutes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai can take over an hour, but with these new electric aircraft, passengers could journey in under 30 minutes.
Air taxis cut 60–90 min car trips to 10–20 min, offering a speedy, eco-friendly option.
Safe and Sustainable Urban Air Mobility
To ensure a safe launch, ADA is working closely with the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to develop safety protocols and operational guidelines. Archer Aviation will support the project by providing experienced pilots, engineers, and maintenance teams to ensure a seamless rollout.
The four-passenger aircraft enables efficient urban commuting with quick turnaround times.
What Will It Cost?
Air taxi fares, between AED 800–1,500 per trip, offer a premium time-saving option. Over time, as the technology advances and becomes more widespread, costs could become more competitive.
How This Changes the Future of UAE Transport
With air taxis taking off, the UAE is positioning itself as a leader in futuristic mobility solutions. This initiative aligns with the country’s commitment to smart transportation, sustainability, and reducing traffic congestion.
Air taxis, along with Etihad Rail’s expansion, will build a multi-modal transport system to boost connectivity across the UAE.
Dubai’s Air Taxis Plans Are Also Taking Off
Dubai is also making significant progress in launching air taxi services. Dubai’s RTA is teaming up with Joby Aviation to introduce electric air taxis by 2026, with the first vertiport already underway at Dubai International Airport.
The Future of Air Taxis in the UAE
With ADA and Archer Aviation leading the way, air taxis could soon become a mainstream transport option. The combination of shorter travel times, lower emissions, and reduced traffic congestion makes this initiative a game-changer for urban mobility.
As the UAE continues to innovate in the transport sector, the launch of air taxis will serve as a blueprint for other cities worldwide.
