Malta tops the list, while UAE bagged the third spot
Business Name Generator (BNG), has ranked the UAE as the world’s third hardest-working country. BNG analyzed over 150 countries worldwide to reveal the regions working the hardest based on a hardworking index score out of 10 ranking the average hours worked and prevalence of excessive working time.
The study indicates that 46.5 per cent of UAE workers put in 49 or more hours per week. While the average paid work hours per week total 52.6 in the UAE.
Malta earned the top spot as the hardest-working country worldwide, with a hard-working index score of 8.8 out of 10. A staggering 91% of workers are logging 49 or more hours per week in Malta, the highest out of all countries studied.
The second-hardest working nation on the list is Bhutan, a country nestled in the Himalayas. Here 53.9% worked a staggering 50.7 hours per week.
BNG also included information from the International Labour Organization on each country’s average working hours and the number of employees who routinely put in extra time.

The World’s Hardest Working Regions
According to the study, while the modern workplace “has many advantages, including greater flexibility and the ability to work from anywhere, it has also raised concerns about the culture of overworking and its effects on employees.”
In the United Kingdom, the City of London has the hardest workers with the most paid hours on average (36) and achieve the highest productivity levels.
In the United States, Utah has emerged as the top-ranking state in the US for the hardest working residents, according to our study.
Nations like Israel, Austria, the Netherlands, and France are at the bottom of the list because of shorter work weeks and little overtime, the report revealed.
Well, this is not the first time the UAE has performed in studies like these. Recently, a HSBC survey revealed UAE as the best country for expats. For the survey, expats from around the globe got quizzed while keeping varied factors in mind. The results revealed that the UAE lifestyle was the key motivation for expats to relocate to the UAE. Around 36 per cent of people agreed that expats do have increased earnings when they relocate to the UAE, 34 per cent said that the country is best for family stability, whereas 30 per cent agreed that there are more options for living a more sustainable lifestyle.
