UAE Launches Online National Pledge for Citizens and Residents

The UAE’s new “Pledge and Commitment” initiative allows citizens and residents to sign a national pledge online through pledge.ae, expressing loyalty, belonging, and appreciation for the country and its leadership.

The UAE has launched a digital National Pledge that can be signed by both citizens and residents. The initiative, called “Pledge and Commitment” (Ahd Wa Waad), aims to strengthen national identity, unity, and shared values across the country. Participants can sign online and receive a digital certificate of appreciation.

UAE residents and citizens can now sign a National Pledge online

A new nationwide initiative is inviting people across the UAE to take part in a digital pledge that reflects loyalty, belonging, and appreciation for the country.

Called “Pledge and Commitment”, the initiative was launched by Sandooq Al Watan and is open to all members of society, including Emiratis and expatriate residents. Through the online platform, participants can digitally sign a pledge expressing their commitment to the UAE’s values, unity, and future.

The move is another example of how the UAE continues to embrace digital-first services while encouraging community participation and strengthening social cohesion.

The initiative has gained attention across the country in recent days after it was expanded through an online platform that makes participation accessible within minutes.

What is the UAE’s ‘Pledge and Commitment’ initiative?

The initiative was officially launched in Abu Dhabi in May 2026 under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Chairman of Sandooq Al Watan.

According to statements reported by the UAE’s national news agency WAM, the initiative reflects appreciation for the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and highlights values such as peace, coexistence, national responsibility, and social unity.

At the launch event held at the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre, more than 4,800 participants took part, including residents, students, academics, investors, business leaders, and community representatives from across the UAE.

Following the launch, the initiative was extended to the wider public through a dedicated digital platform.

Why is the pledge being introduced?

The UAE has long focused on strengthening national identity while bringing together people from more than 200 nationalities who call the country home.

According to Sandooq Al Watan, the initiative is built around four key pillars:

  • Promoting coexistence and unity
  • Drawing inspiration from the leadership values of the UAE President
  • Strengthening civic responsibility and national identity
  • Expressing gratitude for the UAE’s stability, prosperity, and achievements

These pillars are designed to encourage a shared sense of responsibility among everyone living in the UAE, regardless of nationality.

How can residents participate?

Participation is simple and entirely digital.

Residents and citizens can visit the official pledge platform, select their preferred language, enter their name, and submit the pledge online. Once completed, participants receive a personalised Certificate of Appreciation, which can be downloaded and shared.

The platform is available in multiple languages, making it accessible to the UAE’s diverse population. According to Emirates 24|7, the pledge is currently offered in 12 languages, including English, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam, Tamil, Filipino, Bangla, Punjabi, Chinese, Farsi, and Pashto.

Impact on UAE residents

While the pledge is voluntary, its significance goes beyond a digital signature.

For many residents who have built their careers, businesses, and families in the UAE, the initiative offers a way to formally express appreciation for the opportunities, safety, and stability they experience in the country.

It also reflects the UAE’s broader approach to community engagement — using technology to make participation easier while reinforcing shared values across society.

In a country where residents make up a large part of the population, initiatives like this help strengthen the connection between communities and the nation’s long-term vision.

Another step in the UAE’s digital transformation

The launch of an online pledge also aligns with the UAE’s ongoing push towards smart government services.

From digital visas and paperless government transactions to AI-powered public services, the country has consistently invested in making official processes more accessible and efficient.

By moving the pledge online, the initiative allows participation from anywhere in the UAE and supports the country’s vision of creating seamless digital experiences for residents and citizens alike.

It is also expected to expand through universities, companies, organisations, and community events across the country in the coming months.
