Indian Passport Renewal in UAE Just Got More Expensive

Indian nationals living in the UAE will now pay more for passport-related services following a fee revision announced by the Government of India.

The new charges apply across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and all Indian Consular Application Centres (ICACs) in the UAE. The increase covers passport renewals, fresh applications, Tatkal services, lost passport replacements and several other consular services.

Starting July 1, however, applicants will notice a significant increase in fees across several categories.

The Consulate General of India in Dubai confirmed that the revised charges will apply uniformly across the Consulate in Dubai, the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and all authorised application centres operating in the UAE.

How much will Indian passport renewals cost now?

One of the biggest changes affects standard passport applications and renewals.

A 36-page passport under the normal application category will now cost Dh450, compared to the previous fee of Dh285.

Residents opting for the faster Tatkal service will pay Dh900.

For those applying for a 60-page passport, the revised fee is Dh630 under the normal category and Dh1,080 through Tatkal processing.

The increase marks the first major revision in passport fees in more than a decade, with Indian authorities saying the move is part of efforts to standardise charges across Indian missions worldwide.

Lost or damaged passport? Expect higher replacement costs

Replacing a lost or damaged passport will now be more expensive.

Applicants requiring a replacement 36-page passport will pay Dh900 through the normal process, while the Tatkal option will cost Dh1,350.

For a 60-page passport, the charges rise to Dh1,080 under normal processing and Dh1,530 for Tatkal applications.

This is particularly important for frequent travellers and residents who travel regularly between the UAE and India for work, business or family commitments.

A lost passport often requires additional paperwork and processing time, making it advisable for residents to keep digital copies of important travel documents as a backup.

New fees announced for children and minor applicants

Families with children will also see changes.

For applicants under the age of 18, a fresh or reissued 36-page passport will now cost Dh325 under the normal category and Dh775 under Tatkal.

The Indian government has introduced a special concession for younger children. Fresh passport applications for children up to eight years old will receive a 10 per cent discount.

This reduces the fee to Dh295 for normal applications and Dh700 for Tatkal processing.

However, the discount applies only to fresh passport applications and not renewals or reissue requests.

Indian authorities also clarified that passports issued to minors will remain valid for five years or until the child turns 18, whichever comes first.

Other consular services are becoming more expensive too

The fee increase is not limited to passports.

Several commonly used consular services have also been revised.

Police Clearance Certificates (PCC), Surrender Certificates and Global Entry Programme verification services will now cost Dh145, up from Dh95.

Meanwhile, Emergency Certificates will cost Dh60, while a Certificate of Identity will be charged at Dh180.

These services are often required for employment, immigration, residency applications and travel-related formalities.

How the Fee Increase Could Affect Expat Families?

For many residents, the increase may not be immediately noticeable unless they are planning a passport renewal this year.

However, families renewing multiple passports, parents applying for children’s travel documents or residents requiring urgent Tatkal services could see a noticeable jump in costs.

The timing is particularly relevant as many UAE residents travel during school holidays, festive seasons and year-end breaks.

The announcement also comes alongside another major change. From July 1, Alhind Tours and Travels LLC has taken over as the outsourced service provider handling Indian passport, visa and consular applications across the UAE.

While service charges collected by the outsourced provider and the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) levy will continue to apply separately, the newly announced passport fees will form the base cost of all future applications.

For residents whose passports are due to expire within the next year, applying early could help avoid last-minute complications before travel plans.
