Why are Indian passport fees increasing?
India’s Ministry of External Affairs has revised passport and consular service fees for the first time in more than a decade.
Under the new rules, the fee for a standard 36-page passport issued under the normal application process has increased from INR 1,500 to INR 2,500. The Tatkal service, which offers faster processing, will now cost INR 5,000 instead of INR 3,500.
Charges have also been revised for larger 60-page passports, lost or damaged passport replacements, Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs), surrender certificates and other passport-related services.
The revised rates will officially take effect from July 1.

A new company will handle passport services in the UAE
The fee hike is not the only change arriving on July 1.
Indian passport, visa and consular services across the UAE will also move to a new outsourcing partner. Al Hind Tours and Travels LLC has been appointed to manage these services going forward.
The transition is expected to affect service centres across the Emirates and will mark a new chapter in how passport and visa applications are processed for Indian nationals living in the UAE.
Authorities have said the change aims to improve service delivery and make processes smoother for applicants.
