Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal has been stirring up a storm ever since it hit the big screens. While some fans are all about Ranbir’s raw performance, others are side-eyeing the film’s controversial content. And now, Farhan Akhtar has joined the chat. Llet’s just say, he’s not holding back.
In a recent sit-down with Faye D’Souza, Farhan didn’t mince words when asked about the Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed flick. Sure, he gave props to Ranbir’s acting chops, the intense background score, and Vanga’s direction. But when it came to recommending the film, Farhan made it clear – Animal isn’t his cup of tea. “The film didn’t do much for me,” he admitted. “Would I tell someone to watch it? Probably not.” And if he had the chance to produce it? Farhan didn’t hesitate: “Nope, it doesn’t resonate with me. The character is just too problematic.”
For those who’ve been living under a rock, Animal has been the talk of the town since its release in December 2023. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri, the movie has been a box office beast, raking in a whopping Rs 800 crore globally. But with great success comes great controversy. The film’s dark themes and graphic violence have left audiences divided – some calling it a cinematic masterpiece, others slamming it for its portrayal of women.
And while Ranbir owned the lead role like a boss, let’s not forget Bobby Deol’s epic comeback as a villain that we all love to hate. Triptii Dimri might have had limited screen time, but she’s definitely become the nation’s new crush. And Rashmika Mandanna? She nailed it as the fierce lover, wife, and mother that had everyone rooting for her.
Farhan Akhtar upcoming projects
Meanwhile, Farhan Akhtar’s keeping busy with his own projects. He recently featured in the docuseries Angry Young Man, a deep dive into the legacy of his legendary father, Javed Akhtar, and screenwriting partner Salim Khan. Up next for Farhan is the much-anticipated Don 3, with Ranveer Singh taking over the iconic role and Kiara Advani as the leading lady. Filming kicks off in 2025, and you know it’s going to be epic.
Animal might not have won Farhan’s heart, but love it or hate it, there’s no denying the film has left its mark on Bollywood. So, if you’re curious to see what all the fuss is about, you can catch it on Netflix. Just be ready for a wild ride!
