Our 2025 Nissan Patrol review looks at the most important Patrol in years. The all-new model has been redesigned from scratch, and the changes go deep: the V8 is gone, replaced by a V6 turbo with more than 400 hp, and for the first time the Patrol rides on air suspension. We took a close look at the range-topping Platinum edition in Dubai to see whether it beats the much-loved Y62.
Key takeaways
- The V8 is gone: the new Patrol uses a V6 turbo with more than 400 hp.
- Air suspension is new to the Patrol, letting you adjust height and stiffness by terrain.
- 22 inch wheels on Bridgestone tyres, with more height, width and bumper clearance.
- First Patrol with a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display and Google built-in.
- Every car gets a factory off-road recovery kit and an air compressor.
2025 Nissan Patrol design: bigger and bolder
The new Patrol is noticeably taller and wider than before. Our 165 cm presenter cannot reach the roof. The headlights now feature a double C signature that ties in with a new grille crossed by an LED strip, and the bumper clearance is substantially higher than on previous generations. A new front camera system and the radar for dynamic cruise control sit up front.
Along the side you will find 22 inch wheels on Bridgestone tyres, chrome detailing, Patrol branding and V6 Turbo badges, a first for the Patrol. At the back, a light bar stretches across the tailgate, echoing the double C design. Almost everything is new; the tow hook is the only part carried over.

Engine, suspension and off-road ability
The V6 turbo produces more than 400 hp. That may not sound huge for a car this size, but it pulls well up to highway speeds. The suspension is a little softer, but the new air ride lets you control both stiffness and height. Underneath you get double wishbone suspension and a rear locking differential as standard on the Platinum. There is no longer a separate off-road or city version.
We have not driven it off-road yet, so a follow-up video is planned. With lots of ground clearance and the Patrol’s off-road hardware carried over, early signs are promising, even on 22 inch wheels.
Interior and technology
The cabin is all about luxury. Highlights include:
- A panoramic sunroof, a first for the Patrol
- A new screen with Google built-in, including Google Maps
- Nissan’s anti-gravity seats with better lumbar and side support
- A leather-wrapped dashboard and a new steering wheel with the new Nissan logo
- A head-up display, another Patrol first
- Heated and cooled front seats and a full 360 degree camera on one button
- An 18-speaker Klipsch sound system on the Platinum, replacing Bose
We love that Nissan kept physical controls for the most-used functions: the volume knob, camera and hazard buttons sit in the centre, within reach of both front passengers. The 4×4 selector with rear diff lock, four high and four low is still there. Two things we are less keen on: the cool box between the seats now opens only from the back, and the piano black gear selector panel is a fingerprint magnet.
Rear seats and boot
The rear has a higher entry point and far more space than before, with larger screens, excellent knee room and thigh support, two USB-C chargers and dedicated rear climate controls. In the boot there is a button to raise or lower the car for loading, and powered buttons fold the second and third rows.
Factory off-road kit and air compressor
Nissan clearly knows its customers head for the dunes. Every car comes with a standard off-road kit, including a recovery rope and gloves, plus a factory-installed air compressor with hoses, so you can deflate and reinflate your tyres to whatever pressure you need.
Our verdict on the 2025 Nissan Patrol
The previous Patrol was already comfortable; the new one takes it up another notch, and the sunroof gives the cabin a much more open feel. Nissan has punched well above its weight on luxury and technology, while keeping the off-road essentials. Thanks to Apex Detail Studio, our venue for this shoot.
