Your Guide To Getting A Driving License in Dubai

The best way to explore and commute in Dubai is by driving. Driving in Dubai is fun and convenient, and thanks to the smooth roads, you don’t have to stress much about bad roads. Yes, there’s traffic, but driving in Dubai is still bliss. And if you have moved to Dubai, and are now a resident wanting to apply for a driving license, here’s everything you must know. 

First and foremost, as a Dubai resident, there are some criteria and requirements that one needs to meet to obtain the license. According to the RTA Dubai, you must be Seventeen years six months of age or above to apply for the license.

Both Theoretical And Practical Tests Are Compulsory To Obtain The License

  • You should be medically fit and join the training & qualification program offered by one of the driving institutes approved by the Roads and Transport Authority.
  • To obtain a driving licence, you must pass both theoretical and practical tests. The test includes – fitness and optical, knowledge, yard, assessment and on-road driving tests. Tests can only be conducted by an approved doctor or a medical body authorized by RTA. The report should state your physical, optical and mental health to ensure your ability to drive safely on public roads. 
  • Once you are done with your tests, and if you clear them, you will get the licence. However, you must note that only applicants who are 18 years old or above shall be issued a driving license.

Driving requirements For Special-needs Applicants 

  • Applicants with mental or physical disabilities should mention their disability with a medical report; on those bases, the driving institute will set the required training sessions. 

In case you fail the practical test, you will have to undergo additional training sessions according to the approved policy of the Licensing agency.
