Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Announces 2026 as the UAE’s ‘Year of the Family’

The UAE has officially declared 2026 as the ‘Year of the Family’, under the directive of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The initiative reinforces the country’s long-standing emphasis on family as the cornerstone of its social and cultural fabric.

A vision rooted in unity and values

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed stated that family remains the foundation of society and the source of the nation’s strength and cohesion. The upcoming year aims to promote stronger bonds within families, encourage intergenerational understanding, and ensure that every member of society feels supported and valued.

The ‘Year of the Family’ will include national campaigns, educational initiatives, and community programs designed to strengthen family relationships and create a nurturing environment for children and youth. These efforts will align with the UAE’s broader vision for social sustainability and wellbeing, consistent with the UAE Centennial 2071.

Building on previous national themes

The new theme continues the country’s tradition of dedicating each year to a social priority. Previous national themes like the Year of Sustainability (2023) and the Year of Giving (2017) mobilized communities and led to long-term initiatives.

The UAE declared 2026 as the ‘Year of the Family’ to encourage public and private sectors to collaborate on policies that protect family values, support a better work-life balance, and improve overall quality of life.

Strengthening family support and social cohesion

Authorities are expected to unveil a series of initiatives throughout 2026 focused on mental well-being, parenting, women’s empowerment, and youth engagement. The initiative will also highlight the role of Emirati heritage, culture, and traditions in shaping strong, connected families.

Government entities and community organizations across all Emirates are likely to participate through events, workshops, and national awareness programs aimed at reinforcing unity and belonging.

A year that celebrates togetherness

With this announcement, the UAE continues to prioritize social development and the well-being of its citizens and residents. The ‘Year of the Family’ will not only celebrate family life but also inspire collective responsibility towards building a more compassionate and cohesive society.
