Legendary filmmaker, poet, and writer Pritish Nandy bid farewell to the world on January 8, 2025, at the age of 73, leaving an indelible mark on the realms of art, literature, and cinema. Known for his fearless approach and unmatched creativity, Nandy succumbed to a cardiac arrest after battling pancreatic cancer at his Mumbai residence. But while the industry mourns, not everyone seems to be on the same page about his legacy.
Anupam Kher’s Heartfelt Ode to His Friend Pritish Nandy
Actor Anupam Kher, who shared a long-standing friendship with Nandy, penned an emotional tribute that tugged at the heartstrings. Describing him as a “fearless visionary,” Kher revealed how Nandy was his rock during his early days in Mumbai.
His post read, “Deeply deeply saddened and shocked to know about the demise of one of my dearest and closest friends #PritishNandy! Amazing poet, writer, filmmaker and a brave and unique editor/journalist! He was my support system and a great source of strength in my initial days in Mumbai. We shared lots of things in common. He was also one of the most fearless people I had come across. Always larger than life. I learnt so many things from him… I will miss you and our times together my friend. Rest well.”
The actor also reminisced about Nandy’s generous spirit, sharing how he surprised him by putting him on the cover of Filmfare and The Illustrated Weekly.
Neena Gupta Reveals a shocking incident
Not all tributes were sweet and somber. Actress Neena Gupta had a mic-drop moment when she openly called out Nandy for past misdeeds. In a blunt statement, she alleged that Nandy had once stolen her daughter Masaba Gupta’s birth certificate and published it without her consent.
“So, no RIP, you understand,” Neena declared, adding, “I have proof of it.” And just like that, the spotlight shifted from Nandy’s legacy to some serious allegations.
Neena has previously spoken about the incident, hinting at how a journalist had crossed the line to uncover Masaba’s paternity – a story she believes should’ve remained private. Her refusal to mourn Nandy adds a layer of complexity to the tributes pouring in.
