Just when we thought Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri were about to bring some fresh laughs with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, the film has hit a major snag, and it’s not the kind you can laugh off! Director Raaj Shaandilyaa, who’s known for his quirky storytelling, is now facing some serious heat. The film has landed in legal trouble just days before its release. And guess what? The ‘P’ word is being thrown around – yes, plagiarism!
Plagiarism Drama Unfolds with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video
Producer Sanjay Tiwari is not holding back as he accuses Raaj Shaandilyaa of lifting the central plot of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video from a script written by screenwriter Gulbanu Khan. The original script, reportedly titled Sex Hai Toh Life Hai…?, was registered way back in 2015 with the Screen Writers Association. Tiwari has already fired off a legal notice to Shaandilyaa, and they’re waiting for his response. If he stays silent? Well, brace yourselves for more courtroom drama!
What’s the Plagiarism Fuss All About?
Tiwari and Khan claim the core of the film is eerily similar to their script. So, what’s the story here? According to Tiwari, the original plot revolves around a husband and wife who shoot their own private video to “spice up” their relationship. But things take a wild turn when the video goes missing, leading to all kinds of madness. After watching the promo for Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Tiwari realized the plotline was too familiar for comfort and wasted no time in sending a legal notice.
Tiwari revealed, “After watching the promo, we realized that Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video revolves around the same idea. So, we sent a legal notice to all the makers and are waiting for their proper response. If we do not receive a reply within the next 2-3 days, we will take appropriate action.”
The original scriptwriter, Gulbanu Khan, is in disbelief that this is even happening. “It’s shocking that someone could misappropriate our ideas. The central idea of any film is very important. It’s like a foundation stone, without which the story and then the film cannot even be thought of. Bala and Ujda Chaman is another example where the central idea is the same,” Khan remarked.
Behind the Scenes: What Went Wrong?
Tiwari also revealed that he had planned to start filming Sex Hai Toh Life Hai…? back in 2017-2018, but life threw a few curveballs, causing delays, followed by the pandemic. However, he had the title registered with WIFPA in 2018 and was ready to move forward when things took a pause.
For those who are still in the dark, the film is slated to release on October 11th (that is, if the legal hurdles are sorted in time). The film stars not only Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, but also the ever-hilarious Archana Puran Singh, Tiku Talsania, Mallika Sherawat, and Vijay Raaz. Will this controversy overshadow the movie’s release? Only time will tell.
We’ll be watching closely to see how this legal saga unfolds. Is this just a misunderstanding or something much bigger?
