Modernizing Dubai’s Marine Transport
The upgrades to the marine stations are part of the Dubai Marine Transport Master Plan 2030. These improvements aim to expand the network’s capacity, with the number of marine transport stations increasing from 48 to 79 by the end of the decade. The enhancements will improve connectivity across key areas, including Dubai Creek, Dubai Water Canal, and the Arabian Gulf coastline.
This upgrade will boost passenger traffic by 51%, increasing users from 14.7 million to 22.2 million annually.
Sustainability at the Forefront

Sustainability is a key focus of this initiative. Dubai has introduced the world’s first 3D-printed electric abra, a groundbreaking innovation that merges modern technology with heritage design. These environmentally friendly boats run on electric motors powered by lithium batteries, offering zero emissions and quieter operations compared to traditional diesel-powered abras.
This shift to sustainable marine vessels aligns with Dubai’s larger environmental goals, reducing manufacturing costs by 30% and cutting production time by 90%.
Enhanced Passenger Experience
The upgraded stations are designed to enhance the overall passenger experience. They are implementing features like improved docking facilities, better seating areas, and more efficient boarding processes. In addition, smart technology such as predictive maintenance systems and AI-powered monitoring tools will ensure the smooth operation of vessels, minimizing disruptions and reducing downtime.
Pioneering Technology in Marine Transport
The use of 3D printing and other advanced technologies underscores Dubai’s commitment to innovation. The RTA is working toward creating a seamless and eco-friendly transportation ecosystem, with autonomous electric abras currently undergoing trials. These vessels promise precise navigation and enhanced safety features, paving the way for the future of smart transportation in Dubai.
Building Dubai’s Connectivity
The upgraded marine transport system will connect more waterfront developments and key attractions. The expanded network will not only support daily commuters but also boost Dubai’s tourism sector by providing easier access to its iconic destinations.
