Quick answer
- Ajman’s Municipality and Planning Department says phase one of the Ajman city centre roads project is 75% complete and is expected to open early next year (2027).
- Three city centre intersections are already open to traffic, including Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street with Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Street, and with Anas bin Malik Street.
- Phase one of the Al Hamidiya Street development in Ajman is 25% complete and will widen the road to three lanes each way between Mohammed bin Rashid Street and Jeddah Street.
- Works are still under way on Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street and Al Zaher Street in Ajman, so drivers should expect roadworks there until the projects open.
The first phase of the Ajman city centre roads project is 75% complete and the first phase of the Al Hamidiya Street widening is at 25%, with both expected to open early in 2027. The work affects anyone who drives through central Ajman or uses Al Hamidiya Street to reach the border road.

The Ajman city centre roads project is moving towards the finish line. In an update published on 27 October 2026 after a site visit, Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, reviewed progress and confirmed that phase one is now 75% complete, while a separate upgrade of Al Hamidiya Street has reached 25%.
What was announced about the Ajman city centre roads project
The department says the city centre roads development is part of a wider plan to make the road network in Ajman more efficient, improve traffic flow and support growth in the busiest parts of the emirate. Dr Eng Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector, and Eng Abdullah Mustafa Al Marzouqi, Director of the Roads and Infrastructure Department, joined the inspection.
According to the department, the following works are already finished:
- Main works on Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Street.
- A new connection between Masfout Street and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street.
- The intersection near Al Rashidiya Park, which is now open.
- Civil works for the stormwater drainage pumping station.
Work is continuing on Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street and Al Zaher Street, along with the remaining sections of the stormwater drainage network. The department says the project is on schedule and is expected to open early next year, after which the later phases will follow the approved plans.
Intersections already open to traffic
Rather than waiting for the whole phase to finish, Ajman is opening completed sections and junctions as soon as they are ready. These three intersections are already in use:
| Intersection | Area | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street and Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Street | Ajman city centre | Open |
| Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street and Anas bin Malik Street | Ajman city centre | Open |
| Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Street and Al Zaher Street | Near Al Rashidiya Park | Open |
Al Hamidiya Street widening: 25% complete
The first phase of the Al Hamidiya Street development runs from Mohammed bin Rashid Street to the Border Road. Preparation of the road bed along this whole stretch is done, and crews are moving on to the remaining pavement layers. The project also organises pavements and parking spaces along the street, and it completes the extension of Al Hamidiya Street so that it links up with the Border Road.
| Project | Section | Lanes | Progress | Expected opening |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| City centre roads development, phase one | Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Street, Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street, Al Zaher Street and linked junctions | Not stated | 75% | Early 2027 |
| Al Hamidiya Street development, phase one | Mohammed bin Rashid Street to Jeddah Street | 3 each way | 25% | Early 2027 |
| Al Hamidiya Street development, phase one | Jeddah Street to the Border Road | 2 each way | 25% | Early 2027 |
What it means for drivers
For people who drive in central Ajman, the opened junctions should already make some trips smoother, and the department says the full upgrade aims to raise the level of service on these streets. Until early 2027, though, the remaining works on Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street, Al Zaher Street and Al Hamidiya Street mean lane changes and work zones are likely to stay in place.
The upgrade also includes a new stormwater drainage pumping station and network for the city centre. The authority has not published a cost or road lengths for either project.

Practical tips for driving in Ajman during the works
- Follow the temporary signs and lane markings on Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street and Al Zaher Street, as layouts can change as sections open.
- Slow down in work zones and keep a safe distance from site trucks entering and leaving the road.
- Try the newly opened junctions near Al Rashidiya Park and on Anas bin Malik Street if your route passes through the city centre.
- On Al Hamidiya Street, allow extra time while the widening between Mohammed bin Rashid Street and the Border Road is completed.
