Dubai on Alert as Light Rains Continue: Authorities Urge Caution

Dubai is experiencing light rainfall and cloudy skies, prompting the Dubai Municipality to take swift action. The civic body has confirmed that its teams are on high alert to manage rain-related incidents, improve drainage systems, and ensure public safety.

Residents are encouraged to report water accumulation or other weather-related issues through the Dubai Municipality App, via WhatsApp, or by calling the toll-free helpline at 800900.

Government Agencies Issue Safety Guidelines

In light of the changing weather, Dubai Police, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) have issued safety advisories.

  • We urge drivers to exercise caution by reducing speed, maintaining a safe distance, and avoiding sudden braking on wet roads.
  • Pedestrians should remain alert and use designated crosswalks to avoid accidents.
  • Residents should secure outdoor items to prevent them from being displaced by strong winds.

Weather Forecast: More Rain Expected?

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported light rain in several areas, including Falaj Hazza, Al Ain, Tawiyah in Fujairah, and Hamim Al Dhafra. The forecast suggests partly cloudy skies with the possibility of light showers, especially in northern regions.

As of today, Dubai’s temperature stands at 24°C (75°F), with a high of 26°C (80°F) and a low of 18°C (65°F). While the weather remains pleasant, residents should stay updated on any changes.

Major Infrastructure Upgrades to Handle Future Rainfall

Dubai has taken long-term steps to improve its drainage capacity following heavy rains in previous years. The Tasreef Project will expand the city’s rainwater drainage network by 700% by 2033, with a budget of 30 billion dirhams.

This major project will enhance Dubai’s ability to handle over 20 million cubic meters of water daily, significantly reducing the risk of water accumulation.

How Residents Can Stay Safe and Informed

Authorities recommend staying updated through official channels and weather apps. Here’s how residents can contribute to a safer environment:

  • Report flooded areas via the Dubai Municipality App or 800900.
  • Avoid driving in waterlogged areas to prevent vehicle damage.
  • Follow social media updates from Dubai authorities for real-time alerts.
