Saudi Arabia Resumes Umrah Visas from June 10

Saudi Arabia has officially resumed issuing Umrah visas from Tuesday, June 10, 2025, marking the beginning of a new season for Muslims looking to perform the pilgrimage outside of the Hajj period. The announcement comes just as over 1.6 million pilgrims completed their final ritual—the farewell circumambulation (tawaf) around the Kaaba—in Makkah.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has lifted all special restrictions for the Hajj period, including the suspension of entry to Makkah without a valid Hajj permit, previously enforced to manage crowd capacity and ensure safety.

its importance for dubai residence

Dubai’s large Muslim community—both Emirati nationals and expatriates—can now begin preparations for Umrah travel during the summer and beyond. While UAE citizens can travel visa-free to Saudi Arabia, expatriates must secure a visa to perform Umrah, either through a Saudi e-Visa or an authorised travel agent offering Umrah-specific services.

The reopening is significant, as it enables those who couldn’t participate in Hajj to still engage in spiritual worship through the Umrah pilgrimage, which remains a deeply meaningful journey for many Muslims.

Key visa and travel requirements for Umrah

Residents planning Umrah from Dubai must keep the following in mind:

  • Valid UAE residence visa is mandatory for expatriates
  • Passport validity of at least six months from the travel date
  • Muslim and aged 18+ to apply independently (minors must travel with guardians)
  • Recent passport-sized photo in digital format
  • Health insurance is typically included in the visa cost
  • Flight and hotel bookings may be required as supporting documentation

Umrah visas are typically valid for 90 days, with no restrictions on the number of times the pilgrim can enter Makkah and Madinah during that period. Pilgrims can perform Umrah year-round, with faster visa processing, especially through the e-visa portal.

How to apply from Dubai

There are two primary options available:

  • Saudi e-Visa for Umrah
This is a popular option for UAE residents who hold eligible passports. The process involves submitting documents and payment online. Approval can take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours.
  • Umrah visa via travel agencies
Those not eligible for the e-Visa, or who prefer an all-inclusive package, can apply through a licensed Umrah agent in Dubai. Packages typically include visa processing, accommodation, transport, and sometimes guided support for performing the rituals.

It’s recommended that applicants finalise their bookings and documentation well in advance of their intended travel dates, especially as the demand increases after Hajj season.

Restrictions lifted for entry into Makkah

With Hajj over, restrictions barring entry into Makkah for those without specific permits have now been removed. During the pilgrimage season, hotels and hospitality providers were directed not to accept bookings from anyone without a valid Hajj permit. That condition no longer applies as of June 11, restoring open access to the holy city for all Umrah visa holders.

What made this Hajj season different

The 2025 Hajj season was notable for its efficiency and the number of pilgrims hosted. According to official figures, 1,673,230 pilgrims performed Hajj this year. Saudi Arabia welcomed over 1.5 million international pilgrims, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing services for the global Muslim community.

This smooth conclusion of Hajj has given Saudi officials the confidence to resume Umrah operations without delay, reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to religious tourism and hospitality.

Plan your Umrah journey with care

Travelers from the UAE planning for Umrah should:

  • Use only authorised travel agencies
  • Double-check visa processing times and documentation
  • Stay informed about any health protocols or changes in regulations
  • Book accommodation early during peak periods such as school holidays

With Umrah visa issuance resuming from June 10, this marks a renewed opportunity for Muslims in the UAE to perform the sacred pilgrimage in a more flexible timeframe. Whether through the Saudi e-Visa system or licensed travel agents, planning ahead will ensure a seamless and spiritually fulfilling experience.
