UAE Visa Amnesty: Passport Validity Requirement Reduced to One Month

In an important move aimed at easing the process for visa violators, the UAE has reduced the minimum passport validity requirement from six months to just one month. This change, announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Ports Security (ICP), is part of the ongoing visa amnesty program designed to help individuals rectify their residency status without facing hefty fines.

A Welcome Relief for Many

The new directive, effective immediately, allows individuals with soon-to-expire passports to apply for visa amnesty without the need for immediate passport renewal. This is particularly beneficial for those whose passports have less than six months of validity left, a common hurdle that previously complicated the amnesty process.

Simplifying the Amnesty Process

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of ICP, stated that reducing the passport validity requirement aims to solve overstayers’ challenges. The ICP hopes this change will encourage more individuals to regularize their status during the amnesty period from September 1 to October 31, 2024.

Benefits of the New Rule

The reduction in passport validity requirement is expected to:

  • Facilitate quicker processing: Applicants can now avoid the lengthy process of passport renewal.
  • Increase participation: More individuals are likely to take advantage of the amnesty program.
  • Reduce administrative burden: Streamlining the process helps both applicants and authorities manage the amnesty more efficiently.

How to Apply

Applicants are encouraged to contact the ICP’s call center for guidance on the application process. The ICP has also set up dedicated counters to assist amnesty seekers, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience.

Expert Opinions

Immigration experts praise the decision, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to humane and practical residency solutions. “This move shows the UAE’s proactive approach to residents’ needs,” said a Dubai-based consultant.

Reducing passport validity to one month makes UAE’s visa amnesty more accessible. It highlights the country’s commitment to supporting its residents and ensuring everyone can regularize their status without undue hardship.
