Driving in the UAE is fun, but it has its own set of challenges as well. From clearing the driving test to ensuring you follow all the rules, as a driver, you must be extremely cautious in the UAE. And now, a new set of speed rules have been announced in the UAE. Starting from Monday, May 1, 2023, UAE will introduce a new minimum speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road, which is a major street for commute between the emirates. Motorists will be required to maintain a speed of 120 KM/per hour on the first two lanes from the left side, and the maximum speed limit will be set at 140 KM/per hour. When it comes to heavy vehicles, they are required to comply with the rules and keep the speed to a maximum speed limit of 140 kph on the third and last lanes. They don’t need to follow the minimum speed limit but should adhere to a maximum speed limit.
Motorists Not Following The Minimum Speed Limit Will Attract A Fine Of AED400
Individuals caught driving below the minimum speed limit will attract a fine of AED400. The Abu Dhabi Police will also implement this new rule in both directions of the road to improve overall traffic safety in the region. The initiative to introduce the minimum speed limit by the UAE is to reduce the number of accidents caused by slow-moving vehicles.

Furthermore, with this initiative, Abu Dhabi Police also aims to ensure that all the road users in the UAE have a safe and smooth driving experience. This new rule, once in place, will enhance road safety and let drivers enjoy a safe environment while driving their vehicles daily. With that said, if you drive daily, ensure you follow the minimum speed to avoid fines.
Meanwhile, Dubai’s RTA has acknowledged 101 drivers for their honesty and exemplary conduct in handling valuable lost and found items while on duty from January 2022 to March 2023.
The items found by the drivers included cash, jewellery, and other valuable items, like A black bag containing diamonds valued at AED1 million, cash amounting to AED3.6 million, a plastic bag containing gold worth AED200,000, an expensive handbag and other things.
