UAE aims to become one of the most futuristic countries in the world, and the work on it has already begun. From drone deliveries to air taxis and driverless cars and buses, testing for all these things has already begun in the UAE. And now, UAE has approved a self-driving car license for the company WeRide. WeRide, a China-based firm, will test the self-driving cars in the country following an announcement by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai. Self-Driving Cars Testing To Soon Begin In The UAE
WeRide provided software and hardware for the phase of self-driving taxi service in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, in 2022. And HH Sheikh Mohammed has officially given the company a license for self-driving cars. Sheikh Mohammed on Twitter said, “Today, in the Council of Ministers, we approved the national policy for electric vehicles, which includes building a national network for electric vehicle chargers, regulating the electric vehicle market, and stimulating related industries to ensure reduced emissions, energy consumption, and the preservation of the quality of roads that the UAE enjoys.

He also added, “We also approved today, within the Council of Ministers, the first national license for self-driving cars on the country’s roads, which was granted to the specialised WeRide company.”
WeRide has conducted autonomous driving tests and operations in 25 cities across five countries and has over 500 autonomous vehicles.

Self-driving cars play an important role in the Middle East, with Saudi Arabia’s giga-project NEOM relying heavily on technology as it seeks to create a sustainable mobility ecosystem. In fact, Saudi has already launched the trial of self-driving cars as part of the government’s efforts to develop advanced transportation systems in the country.
