Stop everything & look up the sky! a 50,000 year old comet will light up the uAE skies this weekend

This is the perfect opportunity to pause everything and look up at the sky. Fortunately for us, the UAE will be able to see the comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) as it swings by the skies in February.

Why is this event one you don’t want to miss when there are so many other celestial occurrences that occur during the year, such as comets, meteor showers, shooting stars, and eclipses?

Before it swings by the planet in February, Comet C/2022 E3 will be at its closest approach to the sun since the end of the last ice age, about 50,000 years ago. Experts also believe that this could be the comet’s final approach to the Earth.

On Saturday, February 4, 2023, stargazers in the United Arab Emirates will get the opportunity to join Dubai Astronomy Group for a spectacular night of observation in the Al Qudra Desert.

It will take place from 6.30 to 9.30 p.m. Adult general admission tickets cost AED 120, while kids’ tickets cost AED 100. You can reserve a space here.

The fun bit is the comet observation, which is included along with information on how to see the comet, a question-and-answer session, Arabian astronomy, and other topics.

Throughout the night, the astronomy group will also observe other heavenly bodies, such as Jupiter, Mars, the Moon, and other deep sky objects. Even your phone can be used to take pictures of celestial objects seen via the telescope.

The astronomy group will organize pick-up from the Centerpoint Metro Station (Rashidiya Park parking) at 4.45 pm for an additional AED 50 per person. After the event, you will be dropped off at the same location by 10:50 p.m.

Don’t forget to bring your Emirates ID, some food, and a warm jacket! Happy sky gazing!
