UAE-ites will enjoy the second last long weekend holiday of 2023 next week, from Friday, July 21st to Sunday, July 23rd, for Islamic New Year. Both private sector and public sector employees across UAE will enjoy the holidays. And if you work and live in Sharjah, we have great news for you. The Sharjah government on Thursday announced the date for the Islamic New Year holiday for public sector employees.
According to Sharjah Government’s Department of Human Resources, the Islamic New Year Holiday will begin on Thursday, July 20, and the working hours will resume on July 24. It means that Sharjah will enjoy the four-day long weekend. Read on for all the deets.

Islamic New Year Holiday In Sharjah To Begin On Thursday
Islamic New Year, also known as the Hijri New Year, occurs during the first month of the Islamic calendar. In January 2022, Sharjah government departments switched to a three-day weekend; hence the Islamic New Year holiday is declared on Thursday so employees can enjoy a longer weekend.
Besides this, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has also announced holidays for private sector employees. The official holiday for Islamic New Year will be on Friday, July 21. The ministry took to Twitter to announce the holiday and wrote:
“The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced that Friday, 21 July, 2023, will be an official paid holiday for all private sector employees in the UAE on the occasion of Islamic New Year (1445H).”
And if you are planning your leaves for 2023, here are other holiday dates that you must know. After July 21st, you will enjoy the next public holiday on Prophet Mohammed’s birthday, Friday, September 29, which is also a long weekend. And the National Day Holiday falls on Saturday, December 2, and Sunday, December 3.
