After handling 66 million passengers in 2022, the Dubai International Airport has increased its 2023 passenger prediction to 78 million. Well, its not for nothing that Dubai has retained the title of the world’s busiest hub for nine years in a row. And now, proving this point, Airports Council International (ACI) World published its list of the ten busiest airports worldwide for 2022, and DXB retained its spot as the world’s leading airport. Here’s what the report reveals.
According to ACI World’s annual report, DXB witnessed the most international passengers stepping into the country. DXB In 2022, DXB welcomed a total of 66,069,981 passengers, which was 127 percent higher than the previous year. In fact, the Q1 of 2023 has been the busiest since the pandemic, with DXB welcoming a whopping 19,729,155 passengers.

DXB welcomed the highest international passengers
ACI’s report looked at the total passenger traffic ranking for 2022. Dubai bagged the fiftth spot, after five airports frojm the USA. These included Atlanta (ATL), Dallas/Fort Worth TX (DFW), Denver (DEN) and Chicago (ORD). Istanbul Airport reached seventh position (64.3 million passengers, +73.8%), followed by London Heathrow Airport, Delhi Airport and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport in the top ten.
In the international rankings, Dubai bagged the top spot. Well, with an airport that operates to 229 destinations across 99 countries on more than 88 international carriers, it was a given that Dubai airport would be ranked the world’s most international passengers. Dubai was followed by Heathrow, Amsterdam, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Istanbul. While the rankings mark a partial return to pre-pandemic prominence for some airports, there are also some changes.

Commenting on the report, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said: “The increase in demand for air travel was universal in 2022, but what set DXB apart was the dedication of our people and the meticulous planning and preparation by each and every service partner that makes up Dubai’s amazing airport community.”
As for the destinations that are most popular with travellers Dubai India maintained its position as the leading destination country for DXB in terms of passenger volume, raking in 9.8 million passengers. Saudi Arabia came in second with 4.9 million passengers, and the UK came in third with 4.6 million.
Other popular travel destinations include Pakistan (3.7 million passengers), the US (3 million), and Russia (1.9 million), which, along with Turkey (1.6 million), has had a greater-than-100% increase in passenger volume from 2019 levels.
After its growth exceeded the 62.8 million anticipated for 2022, Dubai Airport is well on its way to reaching pre-pandemic passenger traffic levels. Read more here.
