What happened?
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded the contract for the Dh2 billion Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor Development Project.
Who is affected?
Residents, commuters, businesses and visitors travelling through western and eastern Dubai, particularly those using Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Emirates Road and surrounding communities.
Why does it matter?
The project will reduce travel times, improve traffic flow, support new residential developments and strengthen Dubai’s transport infrastructure as the city’s population continues to grow.
Dubai approves Dh2 billion Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor to improve traffic across six major roads
Dubai is continuing its investment in world-class transport infrastructure with the launch of the Dh2 billion Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor Development Project. Announced by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the new corridor is designed to improve connectivity between six major roads, reduce congestion and support the city’s growing population.
Stretching 12 kilometres, the project forms part of Dubai’s long-term strategy to build a smarter and more efficient transport network. Once completed by the end of 2028, the corridor is expected to significantly reduce journey times, improve access to several rapidly developing communities and benefit more than 650,000 residents and visitors.

A new road corridor connecting six major highways
The Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor will create a continuous link between some of Dubai’s busiest transport routes:
- Sheikh Zayed Road
- Al Khail Road
- Al Meydan Street
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road
- Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street
- Emirates Road
According to the RTA, the project aims to strengthen east-west connectivity while supporting future urban expansion as outlined in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The upgraded corridor will accommodate more than 130,000 vehicle trips daily and handle over 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, helping ease pressure on several busy intersections across the city.
Major engineering works will improve traffic flow
The project includes a range of large-scale infrastructure upgrades designed to keep traffic moving without frequent stops.
Key features include:
- Seven bridges spanning approximately 2.3 kilometres
- Eight tunnels covering around 900 metres
- Multi-level free-flow interchanges
- Loop ramps and dedicated entry and exit points
- Expansion of Latifa bint Hamdan Street to four lanes in each direction
- 12.5 kilometres of cycling tracks connecting Al Qudra with Jumeirah
By replacing signal-controlled intersections with free-flow junctions, motorists are expected to experience smoother journeys and fewer traffic delays during peak hours.
Travel times could be cut by more than half
One of the biggest advantages of the development is the expected reduction in journey times.
The RTA estimates that travel between Umm Al Sheif Street and Emirates Road will decrease from approximately 33 minutes to just 15 minutes once the project is complete.
These improvements are expected to ease congestion on several surrounding roads while providing faster access for daily commuters travelling between residential neighbourhoods, business districts and leisure destinations.
The corridor has also been designed with future demand in mind, ensuring it can accommodate continued population growth over the coming years.
Supporting Dubai’s fastest-growing communities
The upgraded corridor will directly serve several established and emerging communities, including:
- Nad Al Sheba
- Dubai Hills Estate
- Al Barari
- Dubai District One
- Mohammed Bin Rashid Gardens
- Living Legends
- Majan
- Global Village
According to RTA Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Mattar Al Tayer, the project reflects the authority’s commitment to providing advanced infrastructure that keeps pace with Dubai’s rapid urban and economic growth.
He said the corridor will improve connectivity between eastern and western Dubai while providing efficient access to current and future development projects.
With improved road links, residents can expect quicker journeys, while businesses located across these communities could also benefit from easier customer access and more efficient logistics.
Part of Dubai’s wider transport expansion
The Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor is one of several strategic transport projects currently underway across Dubai.
It forms part of the RTA’s wider 2024–2027 Roads Development Plan, which includes 22 major road projects worth Dh16 billion. These developments are focused on improving traffic flow, reducing congestion and preparing the emirate for future population growth.
Alongside new road projects, Dubai is also progressing with several high-profile public transport initiatives, including:
- The Dubai Metro Blue Line is scheduled to open in 2029 with 14 new stations.
- The Dubai Loop is an underground transport system currently under development.
- Continued expansion of cycling infrastructure across the emirate to encourage sustainable mobility.
These projects align with Dubai’s vision of becoming one of the world’s most connected and accessible cities while supporting economic development, tourism and long-term sustainability.
A major investment in Dubai’s mobility
As Dubai continues attracting new residents, investors and businesses, efficient transport infrastructure remains a key priority.
Projects such as the Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor are expected to:
- Reduce daily travel times.
- Improve access between residential and commercial districts.
- Support future housing and mixed-use developments.
- Enhance road safety through modern interchange designs.
- Strengthen Dubai’s transport network ahead of continued population growth.
Once operational, the new corridor is expected to become one of the city’s most important east-west road links, providing faster and more reliable journeys across multiple parts of Dubai.
