UAE Residents and Businesses Rejoice: Akeed System to Eliminate the Need for Emirates ID Scanners Soon

Unlocking the Potential of Akeed for Enhanced Data Access

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) in the United Arab Emirates is set to introduce a groundbreaking system named “Akeed” that promises to simplify the process of accessing residents’ data. This innovative system is expected to eliminate the need for card readers and enable private sector companies to obtain accurate information directly from the ICP database. The rollout of Akeed is anticipated to take place later this year or in the following year.

Introducing Akeed: A Game-Changer

Akeed, the new system unveiled during the recent Gitex Global technology exhibition, will revolutionize the way residents’ information is accessed and utilized. With Akeed, the focus shifts from traditional card readers to a more streamlined, efficient approach.

Akeed: Benefits at a Glance

A representative from the ICP explained, “Akeed is a new system which will be launched soon. It helps entities in financial, healthcare, insurance, and other sectors to access correct information from the ICP database. For example, if a healthcare company requires an individual’s name, passport details, or insurance policy details, it can obtain this information directly from the database.

Akeed will ensure that each entity has access to complete and accurate information while saving time for both individuals and companies. This service will replace the need for a card reader, eliminating the requirement to insert Emirates ID cards into these devices.”

Seamless Information Retrieval with Akeed

Akeed allows companies to obtain information for individuals who have already been issued residency permits and Emirates IDs, making it a versatile and convenient solution for various industries. The transition to this system promises to be a game-changer in terms of efficiency and convenience.

Other Smart Initiatives by ICP

In addition to the introduction of Akeed, the ICP unveiled several other smart initiatives at the Gitex Global event. These initiatives are aimed at simplifying and enhancing various processes for residents and businesses in the UAE.

Instant Passport and Emirates ID Renewal

One of these initiatives involves the development of self-service kiosks that will allow UAE nationals and expatriates to instantly renew their passports and Emirates IDs. If successful, these kiosks will be placed in key locations across the UAE, including airports and malls, providing individuals with the convenience of submitting biometrics, renewing travel documents, and processing Emirates IDs around the clock.

Effortless Border Crossing

Furthermore, the ICP has introduced a Smart Land Borders Crossing system, enabling citizens and residents to cross the Al Ghuwaifat border without exiting their vehicles. Motorists must have their vehicles registered under their names to use this system, which scans their car’s number plate and opens the first barrier for the driver. Subsequently, individuals can scan their passports, and Emirates ID, and provide biometric or facial recognition data. Once the ICP system verifies the information, the second barrier opens, allowing motorists to exit the country effortlessly.

ICP’s Role in the UAE

Established in 2004 as the “Emirates Identity Authority,” the ICP has played a pivotal role in managing the population register and the Emirates identity card program in the UAE. This program has involved recording vital data for all residents in the country and storing it in electronic databases in coordination with relevant authorities, ultimately issuing Emirates ID cards to individuals. Over time, the ICP has expanded its functions to include matters related to citizenship, passports, and the entry and residence of foreigners in the UAE, ensuring a seamless and secure process for individuals in the country.
