The system, which aims to enhance road safety across the emirate, will use coloured lights to alert drivers of upcoming traffic incidents and adverse weather conditions.

Lights flashing in red and blue will alert drivers of an upcoming traffic accident, and yellow light flashes will warn drivers about adverse weather conditions including fog, dust, rain, or any incident on the road. Flash alerts are operated using solar energy, as well as internal batteries, and are easily visible from a distance of 200m during day and night.

The system has been put in place after Abu Dhabi Police released a crash video warning drivers not to tailgate.

Individuals caught driving below the minimum speed limit will attract a fine of AED400. The Abu Dhabi Police will also implement this new rule in both directions of the road to improve overall traffic safety in the region. The initiative to introduce the minimum speed limit by the UAE is to reduce the number of accidents caused by slow-moving vehicles.

Furthermore, with this initiative, Abu Dhabi Police also aims to ensure that all the road users in the UAE have a safe and smooth driving experience. This new rule, once in place, will enhance road safety and let drivers enjoy a safe environment while driving their vehicles daily. With that said, if you drive daily, ensure you follow the minimum speed to avoid fines.
