Abu Dhabi City Municipality planted more than 14 million seasonal flowers across Abu Dhabi city and mainland areas as part of its 2025 achievements.

The municipality said the flowers were used to create coordinated landscaping displays that enhance public spaces and reflect Abu Dhabi’s urban identity. The figure covers the wider landscaping programme and should not be interpreted as the number of flowers planted specifically in the four new parks.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport separately confirmed that more than 6 million summer flowers were planted in 2025 across Abu Dhabi City, Zayed City, Al Wathba, Al Shahama and Mussafah. The project was part of the Natural Landscaping Project, which also includes seasonal planting during other parts of the year.

Where are Abu Dhabi’s four new Fareej Parks?

Four new Fareej Parks have been completed in Al Falah, Al Samha, Al Rahba and Al Bahia, according to Abu Dhabi City Municipality’s annual achievements report.

The neighbourhood parks are designed to give residents access to recreational facilities closer to their homes.

Facilities include:

  • Multi-purpose sports courts
  • Padel courts
  • Children’s play areas
  • Fitness facilities
  • Seating and relaxation areas

The projects were funded through the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, to strengthen community connections and provide facilities for different age groups.

The completion of these parks also fits into a wider push by DMT to develop neighbourhood-level recreational spaces rather than concentrating facilities only in major city parks.

How is Abu Dhabi expanding its parks and green spaces?

Abu Dhabi’s four new Fareej Parks form part of a much broader programme to improve public spaces across the emirate.

In November 2025, DMT announced that 21 new parks in Abu Dhabi received the international Green Flag Award, while 31 existing parks renewed their accreditation. This brought Abu Dhabi City Municipality’s total to 52 Green Flag-accredited parks and recreational spaces, giving the municipality the highest number of Green Flag-recognised parks and recreational spaces worldwide for 2025.

The Green Flag Award recognises parks and recreational spaces for standards covering areas such as management, environmental quality, visitor experience and sustainability.

The municipality has also been increasing green coverage through tree-planting and landscaping projects. In February 2025, DMT said an afforestation campaign was being carried out across Abu Dhabi and the mainland to increase tree coverage and expand green areas.

What other major park projects has Abu Dhabi completed?

The new neighbourhood parks come alongside larger community development projects.

In Al Falah, DMT completed the first phase of a major liveability project in April 2025. The phase delivered nearly 200 recreational and activity facilities, including 37 parks, 43 children’s play areas, more than 30 sports courts and 10 kilometres of cycling tracks.

It also included four amphitheatres, three skate parks and 30 kilometres of sidewalks. Additional facilities included fitness areas, community gardens and market spaces.

DMT later announced the opening of 16 new parks in Al Shamkhah in December 2025. The parks included eight fitness zones, 25 sports courts, 26 inclusive children’s play areas, walking paths and seating areas.

These developments show that Abu Dhabi’s green-space programme extends beyond flower planting, with more emphasis on active recreation, walking, cycling and family-friendly facilities.

Why is Abu Dhabi investing in seasonal flowers and parks?

The municipality says its landscaping and park projects are intended to improve the city’s appearance, quality of life and public facilities.

For residents, the changes mean more accessible spaces for walking, exercise, children’s activities and outdoor gatherings. Sports facilities such as padel courts and multi-purpose courts also provide additional options for active lifestyles.

For visitors, landscaped roads, parks and public spaces contribute to Abu Dhabi’s overall urban environment.

The approach also has an environmental element. DMT has been using landscaping projects to expand green areas and has highlighted sustainability when selecting plants and managing irrigation and public infrastructure. A 2025 project on Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street, for example, included a new irrigation network and seasonal flowers as part of a wider road beautification project.

Abu Dhabi residents can expect neighbourhood parks and landscaped public areas to play a growing role in everyday life.

Families gain more nearby places for children to play and spend time outdoors. Sports enthusiasts have additional courts and fitness facilities. Older residents and other community groups can benefit from seating, walking areas and accessible recreational spaces.

The municipality is also asking residents to help protect these facilities. Its February 2026 “Our Home, Our Responsibility” campaign encouraged visitors to care for playgrounds, plants, flowers, seating areas, landscaping and other public assets.

The current status is therefore broader than a single flower-planting project. Abu Dhabi is continuing to develop parks, green spaces and recreational facilities while encouraging residents to help maintain them.
