The authority has expanded its bus-on-demand service to four new areas across the city — Al Qusais, Al Warqa’a, Jumeirah Village Circle, and Dubai Investments Park. With this latest rollout, the smart transport service now covers 17 areas across Dubai, giving more residents access to flexible and affordable public transport.
The move comes as Dubai continues to grow rapidly, with more families and professionals moving into newer residential communities outside the city’s main Metro corridors.

Dubai’s growing communities are getting smarter transport options
Over the last few years, areas like JVC and DIP have transformed dramatically. Cafés, schools, supermarkets, fitness studios, and residential towers have quickly filled these neighbourhoods, bringing in thousands of new residents.
But transport connectivity has often remained one of the biggest concerns.
For many residents in JVC, getting to the nearest Metro station can easily involve multiple transport changes or expensive taxi rides during peak hours. In DIP, where industrial and residential zones sit side by side, workers and residents regularly depend on private cars for daily travel.
That’s where Dubai’s bus-on-demand service fits in.
RTA confirmed that the newly expanded network will operate through a fleet of 49 buses. The service is designed to offer quicker connections within communities while helping passengers reach larger transport hubs more efficiently.
It’s part of Dubai’s wider push towards smarter urban mobility, especially in areas where traditional fixed bus routes may not always be practical.
How the Dubai bus-on-demand service actually works
Unlike regular public buses that follow fixed timings and routes, this service works through a smart booking system.
Passengers can book rides using the Dubai Bus On Demand app. After entering their pickup and drop-off locations, nearby buses are assigned based on demand and route availability.
The process feels closer to booking a shared ride than waiting for a traditional bus.
For many residents, especially office workers rushing for morning meetings or parents managing school runs, the flexibility can make a noticeable difference during busy weekdays.
The service mainly focuses on first-mile and last-mile connectivity. In Dubai terms, that often means helping commuters get from residential buildings to Metro stations, business districts, or nearby bus routes without needing a private car.

Before this expansion, the service was already available in several busy residential and commercial districts across the city.

- Oud Maitha
- Al Karama
- Barsha Heights
- Al Mankhool
- Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC)
In places like Business Bay and Downtown Dubai, the service has become particularly useful during peak traffic hours, when short-distance travel can sometimes take longer by car than expected.
Now, with Al Qusais and Al Warqa’a joining the network, residents in older and family-focused neighbourhoods will also benefit from easier local transport access.
Affordable fares could encourage more residents to use public transport
One of the strongest advantages of the service is its pricing.
According to RTA, each ride costs AED5, while additional riders travelling together pay AED4 each. Compared to daily taxi fares across Dubai, the savings can add up quickly over a month.
For residents commuting short distances every day, especially students and office workers, the service offers a practical middle ground between public buses and private ride-hailing apps.
RTA has also introduced promotional free rides in newly launched areas for a limited period. The idea is simple — encourage residents to test the service and become comfortable using shared transport options.
