Dubai’s airports are beginning to get busier ahead of the Eid Al Adha holidays, but for many travellers, this year’s holiday planning has come with an unexpected hurdle — flight cancellations.
Across Dubai International Airport (DXB), passengers are closely watching airline updates after more than 17 international carriers either suspended or reduced flights to Dubai over ongoing regional operational disruptions.
Inside terminals, the atmosphere remains active. Families with luggage trolleys, residents heading home for the summer, and tourists arriving for Eid holidays continue moving through the airport. But alongside the usual travel buzz, there’s also uncertainty. Many passengers are refreshing airline apps, checking departure boards repeatedly, and contacting customer service teams for updates.
While Emirates and flydubai continue operating across most routes, several international airlines have extended suspensions well into the summer — and in some cases, until October 2026.
Dubai flights face disruptions ahead of Eid holidays
The timing of the suspensions has added pressure for residents planning Eid travel. Traditionally, this is one of the busiest periods for outbound flights from the UAE, with many residents flying to Europe, Asia, and nearby holiday destinations.
At DXB, airlines are gradually rebuilding schedules after the UAE airspace fully reopened. However, carriers are still dealing with route adjustments, aircraft positioning issues, and operational capacity limits across the wider region.
For passengers, the impact has been immediate.
Some travellers have already started changing holiday plans entirely, while others are searching for alternative routes through airlines still operating normally from Dubai.
Travel agencies in the UAE are also seeing a spike in refund requests, rebookings, and last-minute itinerary changes.
Which airlines have suspended Dubai flights?
Several major international carriers have confirmed temporary suspensions to and from Dubai.
British Airways has cancelled all Dubai flights until May 31. Air France has also paused operations until May 27, while Dutch airline KLM will not operate Dubai services until June 28.
Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific has suspended flights until June 30, and Singapore Airlines confirmed cancellations on its Dubai route until August 2.
Meanwhile, Lufthansa Group airlines — including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines — have extended suspensions until at least September 13.
Budget carriers are also affected. Wizz Air currently shows no Dubai flights until late October, while Eurowings and airBaltic have both suspended operations until October 24.
Other airlines impacted include:
- Aegean Airlines
- Air Astana
- Air Canada
- Cebu Pacific
- Finnair
- Pegasus Airlines
- Royal Air Maroc
- SunExpress
Many of these airlines are offering free rebooking options, refunds, or travel vouchers for affected passengers.
Emirates and flydubai continue operating from Dubai
Despite the international disruptions, Dubai’s own airlines continue to keep the city connected.
At DXB, Emirates check-in counters remain crowded as usual, especially during evening departures. Flydubai also continues operating regional and international routes, although some passengers may still experience delays or schedule changes depending on air traffic conditions.
So far, both UAE carriers have managed to maintain broad operations while adjusting schedules where necessary.
Dubai Airports has also continued advising passengers to arrive early, particularly during peak Eid departure timings.
For residents travelling over the next few weeks, checking flight notifications before heading to the airport has now become almost essential.
Passengers urged to monitor airline updates carefully
For many Dubai residents, uncertainty is currently the biggest challenge.
Some passengers are receiving cancellation emails just days before departure, while others are discovering route changes through airline apps or travel agents.
At several travel agencies across Dubai, staff say customers are now prioritising flexible tickets more than ever before.
Passengers whose flights are cancelled are generally being offered:
- Full refunds
- Free date changes
- Alternative flight options
- Travel credit vouchers
- Open ticket conversions
Still, travel experts are advising residents not to rely only on booking confirmations.
Instead, travellers should monitor airline websites regularly, keep notifications switched on, and allow extra time at airports during Eid travel days.
Eid holiday travel demand remains high across Dubai
Even with the disruptions, Dubai’s travel season is moving ahead at full speed.
Hotels, malls, and tourist hotspots across the city are already preparing for the Eid holiday rush. Popular destinations like Dubai Mall, City Walk, Bluewaters, and JBR are expected to stay busy throughout the break as both residents and visitors continue arriving in the city.
At the same time, outbound demand remains strong. Many UAE residents are still travelling for summer holidays, family visits, and short Eid escapes.
Travel experts say passengers may increasingly shift toward destinations served directly by Emirates and flydubai to avoid uncertainty linked to suspended international carriers.
Residents planning to travel during Eid are being encouraged to stay flexible and keep a close eye on airline announcements in the days ahead.
