The UAE has been ranked among the top four countries worldwide for traffic safety per 100,000 people. This recognition highlights the success of the nation’s comprehensive approach to road safety, built on prevention, awareness, and advanced enforcement.
Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, reviewed the achievement during the Ministry of Interior’s Happiness and Positivity Council meeting in Abu Dhabi.
National policies shaping safer roads
The UAE’s position as a global leader in road safety comes as a result of strict traffic regulations, smart monitoring systems, and continuous awareness campaigns. From intelligent traffic management tools to AI-powered surveillance, the country has invested heavily in reducing road accidents and protecting communities.
These initiatives are supported by coordinated efforts across the emirates, ensuring consistent enforcement of rules while tailoring solutions to specific local challenges. The outcome reflects the leadership’s long-term vision for a safer society and a higher quality of life.

Focus on community well-being
Beyond road safety, the Happiness and Positivity Council also discussed projects aimed at strengthening overall public security and well-being. The agenda reviewed government performance indicators and outlined plans to enhance readiness in different sectors, including community safety and awareness.
By integrating traffic safety into broader strategies for public welfare, the UAE continues to ensure that safer roads contribute directly to the everyday lives of residents and visitors.
Leadership at the forefront
The meeting was attended by senior security leaders, including Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai; Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior; and Lt. General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.
Their unified commitment underlines the role of strong leadership in driving sustainable progress in national traffic safety. Collaboration between police forces, civil defence, and the Ministry of Interior has been key to achieving the UAE’s global ranking.
Reinforcing the UAE’s reputation
This milestone strengthens the UAE’s standing as one of the safest nations worldwide. Earlier this year, a ranking named the country the safest nation globally, while it gave Abu Dhabi the title of the world’s safest city for the ninth year in a row. These achievements highlight the UAE’s continued dedication to safety, security, and excellence in governance.
Building for the future
Authorities have emphasised that while the ranking is significant, road safety requires ongoing vigilance. Drivers and pedestrians must respect traffic laws, remain patient, and practise safe habits on the road.
With rapid urban growth and a constantly evolving road network, the UAE is determined to adapt its strategies. Technology, strict enforcement, and community education will continue to play a central role in shaping safer roads for the future.
The UAE’s ranking among the top four countries globally for traffic safety demonstrates the effectiveness of national policies and the collective effort to protect lives. With strong leadership, advanced systems, and community participation, the country remains on track to achieve even greater progress in road safety.
