UAE Sets Guinness World Record With 64 Nationalities Carrying 200kg Flag

A powerful moment of unity unfolded in Abu Dhabi as healthcare workers from 64 countries came together to break a global record.

On a rain-soaked evening at Hudayriyat Island, a remarkable moment unfolded that captured the true spirit of the UAE. In a country known for its cultural diversity, 153 individuals from 64 different nationalities came together to achieve something extraordinary — setting a new Guinness World Record.

The challenge was simple in concept but demanding in execution. Participants carried a massive flag measuring 85 metres in length and weighing over 200 kilograms across a distance of 100 metres. Every step had to be in sync. Every participant had to represent a different nationality. And despite light rain, the determination never wavered.

This achievement officially surpassed the previous 2019 record, which included 58 nationalities, placing the UAE firmly back in the global spotlight for unity-driven initiatives.

Healthcare workers led the historic attempt

What made the moment even more meaningful was who stood behind the flag. These were not professional athletes or performers — they were frontline healthcare workers.

Organised as part of the Burjeel Games by Burjeel Holdings in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the event brought together individuals who have played a crucial role in supporting communities during challenging times.

For one evening, scrubs were replaced with a shared mission. The goal wasn’t just about setting a record — it was about celebrating resilience, teamwork, and the collective strength of people who serve others every day.

Originally scheduled earlier in the year, the finale was postponed and then rapidly reorganised in under 48 hours. Despite the tight timeline, execution remained seamless.

“Our Nation, Our Heartbeat” came to life

The event carried the theme “Our Nation, Our Heartbeat” — and it translated into action on the ground.

There were strict guidelines to follow. Each participant had to represent a unique country. The formation had to remain intact. The flag had to be carried continuously without disruption. Every detail mattered.

And yet, the energy on-site remained high. Even as rain fell lightly, the atmosphere stayed charged. Spectators gathered, participants stayed focused, and the moment unfolded without hesitation.

This wasn’t just a staged attempt. It felt personal. It reflected real stories — of people from different backgrounds finding common ground in the UAE.

A reflection of the UAE’s multicultural identity

The UAE is home to more than 200 nationalities, making it one of the most diverse countries in the world. This record was more than a statistic — it was a visual representation of everyday life across the Emirates.

From hospitals and offices to schools and neighbourhoods, diversity is part of daily living here. This initiative simply brought that reality into one powerful frame.

The participation of healthcare workers also added a deeper layer of meaning. It acknowledged their efforts while reinforcing how essential they are to the country’s social fabric.

More than a record, a reminder

While the Guinness World Record title is a notable achievement, the larger takeaway lies in what it represents.

It highlights how unity remains one of the UAE’s strongest pillars. It shows how quickly communities can come together with purpose. And it reinforces the idea that diversity, when embraced, becomes a strength rather than a difference.

Moments like these don’t just break records — they leave a lasting impression. They remind residents and visitors alike why the UAE continues to stand out on a global stage.

The record set at Hudayriyat Island goes beyond numbers. It tells a story of people, purpose, and pride. In just 100 metres, participants carried more than a flag; they carried a message of unity that defines the UAE.
