UAE National Day Can be a 5-day long weekend

How the UAE's public holiday law could extend your National Day break.

UAE National Day, also known as Eid Al Etihad, celebrates the unification of the seven emirates into a single nation. In 2025, the UAE will commemorate its 54th National Day on Tuesday, December 2. Officially, the public holiday spans two days: December 2 and December 3.

The Possibility of a 5-Day Weekend

Thanks to a recent change in public holiday regulations, non-Eid holidays in the UAE can now be moved to the beginning or end of the week to create longer weekends. This means that if the government shifts the December 3 holiday to Monday, December 1, residents could enjoy an extended break from Friday, November 28 to Wednesday, December 3.

Commemoration Day: A Potential Bonus Day Off

Commemoration Day, observed on November 30, honors the sacrifices of Emirati martyrs. While not an official public holiday, the government may choose to observe it with a minute of silence or other commemorative activities. If the government declares Monday, December 1, as a public holiday in observance of Commemoration Day, it could further extend the holiday period.

Expectations During the Celebrations

UAE National Day celebrations are a spectacle of national pride. Expect grand fireworks displays, military parades, and cultural performances across the country. Popular locations like Abu Dhabi Corniche, Dubai Festival City, and Sharjah’s Al Majaz Waterfront are known for their breathtaking fireworks. The UAE Air Force aerobatic team, Al Fursan, often performs special aerial displays.

How to Plan Your Ultimate Long Weekend

  • Stay Informed: Keep an eye on official announcements from the UAE government regarding any changes to the public holiday schedule.
  • Book Early: If you’re planning to travel or attend events, make reservations in advance as accommodations and tickets may sell out quickly.
  • Celebrate Safely: Participate in official events and follow safety guidelines to ensure a memorable and safe holiday experience.

With a four-day or five-day weekend, UAE National Day 2025 promises to be a time of celebration, reflection, and unity. With the possibility of an extended break, it’s the perfect opportunity to relax, explore, and enjoy the festivities.
