UAE Introduces 10-Year Blue Residency Visa for Environmental Leaders

A shift Towards Environmental Excellence

The UAE has rolled out an exciting new initiative called the Blue Residency visa, offering a decade-long stay for individuals making exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability and protection. This move was announced during a recent cabinet meeting led by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Recognizing Environmental Excellence

The Blue Residency visa aims to recognize and reward individuals who excel in environmental conservation efforts. Candidates with expertise in marine or land conservation, air quality improvement, sustainable technologies, circular economy, and related fields are encouraged to apply.

Emphasizing Sustainable Development

Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the crucial link between economic prosperity and environmental preservation, emphasizing the UAE government’s commitment to sustainable development. The Blue Residency visa will be granted to local and global environmental activists, award-winning researchers, and advocates for sustainable practices.

Application Process

Interested candidates can apply for the Blue Residency visa through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. This streamlined process reflects the UAE’s dedication to attracting top talent in the sustainability sector.

Prioritizing Youth Empowerment

In addition to the Blue Residency announcement, the cabinet approved the National Youth Agenda 2031, focusing on empowering the country’s young population across various sectors. The agenda aims to foster economic empowerment, scientific skill development, national identity reinforcement, community engagement, and international representation for youth.

Elevating Higher Education Standards

The cabinet also endorsed a new framework for evaluating higher education institutions in the UAE. Over 70 institutions will undergo classification and recognition based on criteria such as quality, employability of graduates, research excellence, and global academic affiliations.
