If you prefer ground travel, both buses and cars offer viable options to reach Oman.

By Car

Driving to Oman is a scenic option, offering flexibility and the chance to explore at your own pace. The journey typically takes around five hours, depending on your starting point and chosen border crossing.

  • Border Posts: Popular crossings include Hatta – Al Wajajah (for Dubai and Sharjah), Al Darah (for Ras Al Khaimah), and Dibba or Khatmat Milaha (via Fujairah). Abu Dhabi residents can use the Mezyad border post.

Buses

Buses connect various cities in Oman, including Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah. Mwasalat, Oman’s national transport company, operates routes from Abu Dhabi via Al Ain and from Sharjah to Muscat.

  • From Dubai: Al Khanjry Transport runs daily services departing from Dubai at 7am, 3pm, and 9pm, costing AED 95 for a one-way ticket. The journey takes approximately six hours, including rest stops and immigration services.
  • From Abu Dhabi: Buses depart from Muscat’s Azaiba bus station at 6:30am and arrive in Abu Dhabi at 3:40pm. The return trip leaves Abu Dhabi at 10:45am, reaching Muscat by 8:35pm. A one-way ticket costs AED 109.70 or 11.5 Omani Riyals, with a baggage allowance of 23kg for checked luggage and 7kg for carry-ons.
