Farah Khan just dropped some serious Shah Rukh Khan bombshells, revealing how our beloved King Khan almost didn’t step into his iconic roles in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Main Hoon Na because he felt “too old” for college shenanigans. Say what now?
Age is Just a Number, Right Shah Rukh Khan?
In a recent interview with Radio Nasha, choreographer-turned-filmmaker Farah Khan spilled the tea on SRK’s initial hesitation for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Apparently, at the sprightly age of 30, SRK felt he was pushing the envelope to play a college dude. But hey, who can resist the allure of Rahul, right?
Farah wasn’t done with just one bombshell. She revealed how Main Hoon Na was originally cooking up to be a whole different pot of curry. In her words, “After Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I just wanted to make a young film. Shah Rukh ne mar mar ke Kuch Kuch Hota Hai kiya, he used to say I am too old to play this college boy and he was 30 that time! So I reverse engineered Main Hoon Na. I wanted to make a college film only with Shah Rukh. But why will Shah Rukh go to college, so the whole thing worked backwards. That if he has to go to college, he will go undercover.”
As Farah spun the yarn, she confessed that what started as a small-scale undercover college caper for SRK soon snowballed into a full-blown Indo-Pak thriller, complete with Project Milap and a dash of Suniel Shetty. Who knew a simple college drug bust could escalate into a national affair?
“It started out as a small movie about Shah Rukh bursting a drug ring in the college, where his brother is also there and Shah Rukh falls in love with the chemistry teacher. But while writing I kept feeling this is a bit small, and then the whole India-Pakistan, Project Milap, Raghavan (Suniel Shetty) bits kept adding and the film grew,” Farah added.
With Farah Khan’s knack for turning movie ideas on their heads and Shah Rukh Khan’s charm that knows no age, we can onlt hope to see them together once again.
