Saudi Arabia’s New Vaccine Rules for Umrah Pilgrims in 2025

In 2025, Saudi Arabia has updated its vaccination requirements for Umrah pilgrims. The Kingdom now mandates that all travelers aged one year and older receive the meningococcal ACWY vaccine. This vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before arrival and remains valid for five years.

Additional Vaccination Recommendations

While the meningococcal vaccine is mandatory, the Saudi Ministry of Health also recommends the following vaccinations to ensure the well-being of all pilgrims:

  • Polio Vaccine: Pilgrims from countries with reported polio cases should receive a dose of the oral polio vaccine (OPV) or inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) at least four weeks before traveling.
  • Yellow Fever Vaccine: Travelers from regions at risk of yellow fever transmission should be vaccinated at least 10 days prior to arrival.
  • Seasonal Influenza Vaccine: All pilgrims, especially those with chronic health conditions, are encouraged to get the flu shot to prevent influenza outbreaks.
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Staying updated with COVID-19 vaccinations, including booster doses if applicable, is advised to reduce the risk of infection.

Preparing for Your Umrah Journey

To ensure a smooth pilgrimage experience, consider the following steps:

  • Consult Healthcare Providers: Discuss required and recommended vaccinations based on your health status and country of origin.
  • Obtain Valid Vaccination Certificates: Ensure all certificates are official, clearly stating the vaccine type and administration date.
  • Carry Documentation: Keep physical or digital copies of all health-related documents during your travels.
  • Stay Informed: Regularly check official Saudi health and travel advisories for any updates before your departure.

By adhering to these guidelines, pilgrims can contribute to a safer and more fulfilling Umrah experience in 2025.
