Saif Ali Khan and ace filmmaker Hansal Mehta are joining forces for a murder mystery that’s dark, gritty, and dripping with social commentary. Titled Black River, this upcoming film is based on Nilanjana S. Roy’s critically acclaimed novel, and word on the street is that Saif is not only starring in it but also co-producing it.
What’s Black River All About?
Set in a haunting little village on the fringes of Delhi, Black River kicks off with the brutal murder of an 8-year-old girl and that’s just the beginning. What follows is a chilling investigation that dives deep into the fault lines of religion, class, and gender violence. Saif will be stepping into the shoes of Sub-Inspector Ombir Singh, a determined cop on a mission to uncover truths nobody wants to be revealed.
The cameras start rolling mid-2026, and we’re already sharpening our sleuthing skills. With a hard-hitting storyline and this power-packed duo, Black River promises to be one of the most compelling films.
Saif Steps In The Shoes of A Producer
Partnering with Hansal Mehta’s True Story Films, the Nawab is diving into storytelling that matters. Let’s be honest, a crime thriller with social layers sounds exactly like the content-driven cinema we crave.
While Black River is still simmering in the script kitchen, both Saif and Hansal have jam-packed calendars. Saif is currently filming a Netflix original based on India’s first general election, and Jewel Thief is set to drop on April 25. He’s also signed on for Race 4.
Hansal Mehta, on the other hand, is juggling more projects than we have tabs open. He’s prepping a Netflix business thriller with Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma, wrapping up Gandhi Season 1 and jumping into Season 2 soon, and running the show for Scam 3. This man does not know how to rest.
