RTA Expands On-Demand Bus Service to More Areas in Dubai

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has expanded its on-demand bus service to two new areas—Oud Metha and Barsha Heights—making daily commutes even more convenient. The expansion is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to improve public transport accessibility and provide flexible mobility options for residents and visitors.

What is the RTA On-Demand Bus Service?

The on-demand bus service is a smart transportation initiative that allows passengers to request a ride through the Bus on Demand app. Designed for short-distance travel, this service provides a more flexible and efficient way to get around key areas in Dubai.

The service, which operates with minibuses that accommodate up to 13 passengers, is already available in areas such as Al Barsha, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Al Nahda, Business Bay, and Downtown Dubai. With the latest expansion, more commuters can now benefit from this convenient transport option.

How Does the Service Work?

Using the Bus on Demand app, passengers can:

  • Enter their location and destination
  • Request an available bus
  • Pay the fare directly through the app

The system optimizes routes based on demand, ensuring shorter waiting times and smoother journeys.

Affordable and Convenient Travel

One of the biggest advantages of the on-demand bus service is its affordability. A single trip costs around AED 5 per passenger, making it an economical choice for daily commutes. The service also helps reduce reliance on private cars, contributing to lower traffic congestion and a greener environment.

Why the Expansion?

According to RTA, the service has seen a strong uptake since its launch, with thousands of passengers using it regularly. The expansion to Oud Metha and Barsha Heights was driven by increased demand and the need for better connectivity in these areas.

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, stated that the on-demand bus service now covers ten vital areas across Dubai. The goal is to enhance urban mobility by offering a seamless and reliable transportation alternative for residents and visitors.

Future Plans for the RTA On-Demand Bus Service

RTA plans to continue expanding the on-demand bus service to more areas across Dubai. With growing interest and positive feedback from commuters, additional routes and improvements are expected in the near future.

The initiative is part of Dubai’s broader efforts to enhance public transport infrastructure, making the city more connected, accessible, and sustainable.

How to Use the RTA On-Demand Bus Service

If you’re looking to use the on-demand bus service, simply:

  • Download the Bus on Demand app
  • Create an account and enter your details
  • Select your pickup and drop-off locations
  • Confirm the ride and make the payment
  • Board the bus at the designated pickup point

The service operates with minimal wait times, ensuring a hassle-free commuting experience.

The Future of Public Transport in Dubai

Dubai continues to innovate its transport network, making commuting easier and more efficient. With projects like the on-demand bus service, the city aims to provide smart mobility solutions that cater to the needs of its residents and visitors.
