Ras Al Khaimah Police have initiated a two-week road safety campaign aimed at curbing the menace of speeding, a leading cause of fatalities on the emirate’s roads. The campaign, operating under the slogan ‘Speeding is your wrong decision,’ seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of excessive speed and reckless driving.
The effort, launched following the directives of Major General Ali bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, is part of a broader strategy to enhance road safety and reduce traffic accidents.
Colonel Dr. Muhammad Al Bahar, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, highlighted the alarming number of speeding violations captured by traffic control devices. In response, he urged drivers to exercise heightened caution, particularly on highways and busy internal roads.
Penalties for Speeding Violations
The campaign comes with stringent penalties for those found guilty of speeding violations. According to Article 34 of Ministerial Resolution No. 178, exceeding the speed limit by more than 80km/h will result in a hefty fine of Dh3,000, along with 23 traffic points and the impoundment of the vehicle for a period of 60 days.

Furthermore, Article 35 stipulates that surpassing the speed limit by more than 60km/h incurs a fine of Dh2,000, accompanied by 12 traffic points and a 30-day impoundment of the vehicle.
These measures are intended to act as a deterrent and promote responsible driving habits, ultimately contributing to a safer road environment.
Appeal for Caution
Colonel Al Bahar’s appeal to drivers emphasizes the critical need for responsible behavior on the roads. With heavy fines and vehicle impoundment as consequences for speeding violations, the campaign urges motorists to prioritize safety over speed.
Road Safety as a Collective Responsibility
The road safety initiative underscores the collective responsibility shared by both authorities and the community in ensuring safe road practices. By fostering awareness and adherence to traffic regulations, Ras Al Khaimah Police aims to significantly reduce the incidence of fatal accidents caused by speeding.
