Get Ready for Shorter Work Hours During Ramadan 2024 in Dubai

As Ramadan approaches, workers in Dubai can look forward to shorter hours both in the public and private sectors. The Holy Month is expected to kick off on Tuesday, March 12, pending official confirmation from the UAE’s Moon-sighting committee.

Anticipated Ramadan 2024 Schedule

Sha’ban, the month preceding Ramadan in the Islamic calendar, began on February 11, according to sightings by UAE astronomers. With Sha’ban typically lasting for 30 days, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of March 11, ushering in a month of fasting from dawn until dusk for Muslims.

Public Sector Hours

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) is expected to announce adjusted working hours for public sector employees during Ramadan. In 2023, ministries and federal entities followed a schedule from 9 am to 2:30 pm, Monday to Thursday, and from 9 am to noon on Fridays.

Private Sector Adjustments

Private sector workers can also anticipate a reduction in working hours during Ramadan 2024. Last year, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) mandated a two-hour decrease in daily working hours for private sector employees. This adjustment applies to all employees, regardless of religious affiliation, per federal decree law No.33.

The Ministry emphasized flexibility, allowing companies to implement remote or flexible work arrangements within the reduced daily working hours during Ramadan.

Observing Ramadan 2024

Ramadan is a significant time for Muslims, who fast from dawn until dusk, engaging in prayer and reflection throughout the month. It is a time for spiritual growth and community bonding.

Eid Al Fitr Celebration

Ramadan is expected to conclude on April 8 or 9, followed by the celebration of Eid Al Fitr and a public holiday. The exact dates for Eid Al Fitr will be confirmed by the moon-sighting committee.

Residents can anticipate a six-day public holiday in the UAE to celebrate Eid Al Fitr. However, the official announcement regarding the confirmed public holiday dates will be made after Ramadan.
