Starting as Miss World 2000, Priyanka Chopra Jonas skyrocketed to fame in the blink of an eye. Her initial foray into the acting world with The ‘Hero: Love Story Of A Spy’ in 2003 was merely a precursor to her illustrious career. Priyanka Chopra, the unflinching luminary, dared to venture beyond Bollywood’s borders and blaze a trail that few have dared to tread. Despite being a colossal success in India, her appetite for success was insatiable, and she paved her way from Bollywood to Hollywood.
With her manifold talents in Bollywood, Priyanka recognized that she needed to realize her aspirations of global fame, and her tenacity to accomplish this goal spurred her towards the horizon of the West. Nevertheless, rumours of discord between her and some of the industry’s most influential figures loomed large. With refreshing honesty, Priyanka lifted the veil on the murky underbelly of show business in a candid interview.
Priyanka bared her soul about her choice to bid adieu to the Indian movie industry, attributing the noxious sway of politics as a pivotal cause. However, what led her to this decision?
During her conversation with Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast, Priyanka Chopra divulged that her destiny took an unexpected turn while filming for ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’. It was then that Anjula Acharia of Desi Hits discovered her and offered her an opportunity to pursue a music career in the United States. Priyanka went on to candidly explain her motives for wanting to break free from Bollywood. She was weary of the cutthroat politics that pervaded the industry and said “I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break.” The music video presented her with a chance to explore beyond borders, and not have to cosy up to specific groups or individuals for coveted movie roles. Having spent a considerable amount of time in Bollywood, she felt that it was time for a change.
