Kuwait Opens Its Borders With Simpler Entry for GCC Residents

Travelling to Kuwait just became easier for UAE residents. The country has announced a new visa-on-arrival policy for all foreign nationals who hold a valid residency permit in any GCC nation, provided their permit has at least six months remaining. The policy is already in effect, offering Dubai’s residents a more straightforward route for business trips, short holidays, or family visits.

Previously, only select professional categories—such as doctors, engineers, and legal professionals—qualified for on-arrival entry. The revised regulation now applies to all residency holders, regardless of profession, creating a much more inclusive travel arrangement within the Gulf.

Eligibility and Requirements

The main requirement is a valid GCC residency card with a minimum of six months before expiry. Visitors will need to present their passport and proof of residency at the airport, land border, or seaport in Kuwait. Once verified, a tourist visa will be issued immediately, typically allowing a stay of up to 90 days.

For UAE residents, this means no pre-travel embassy visits, no long application timelines, and no uncertainty over approval. The new policy is designed to encourage smoother regional movement and to boost tourism within Kuwait.

Benefits for Dubai’s Residents

For people living in Dubai, this development offers greater flexibility for both personal and professional travel. It supports last-minute weekend plans, facilitates family visits, and opens doors for quick business engagements without the need for advance visa arrangements.

This policy change also aligns with wider Gulf efforts to enhance cross-border travel and make the region more interconnected for residents. The move reflects Kuwait’s intent to welcome more GCC travellers and contribute to stronger economic and cultural exchange within the region.

Part of a Broader Regional Travel Vision

Kuwait’s visa-on-arrival policy comes at a time when GCC countries are discussing further travel integration, including a unified Gulf tourist visa. While that initiative is still in development, Kuwait’s step adds momentum towards making regional travel more seamless for those who live and work across the Gulf.

For UAE residents, particularly those in Dubai who often travel within the region, Kuwait’s decision marks a positive shift towards easier, faster, and more inclusive travel. With minimal paperwork and instant issuance at the border, a weekend getaway or an impromptu business trip to Kuwait is now far more convenient.
